I think there needs to be more Zahn and Luceno world building books. A big problem with the Star Wars books now is that most of the stories feel inconsequential because they can't step on the toes of the visual media, which is releasing. So, it's more character studies than actual explorations of the wider galaxy. Star Wars needs to get the heck out of the original six movies era and move their shows and movies to new time peroids; only then can the authors develop, explore, and reinterpret that era. Like, Tales of the Jedi is cool but it's already rubbing hard against Dooku: Jedi Lost, and Master and Apprentice. The second problem is the quality of authors: this is slightly more subjective but the writing of many of these new authors is pretty bad imo. A lot of talent is missing with the absence of Luceno, Stover, and Kemp; Zahn is still around but his Ascendancy Trilogy is personally new low for him, compared to his other new Trilogy. The only authors in DU that hold up in my eyes is Dawson, Gray, and Freed. But JJM has returned with a great gameplan: let the old EU authors write novels that fit both into DU and EU, while exploring the wider galaxy and making the EU hardcores happy. Meanwhile, your juggernaut authors of Freed, Gray, and Dawson push the boundaries of the new and fresh.

I think the sequels need more books and I mean books set IN the trilogy between TLJ and TROS. There are plenty of ideas and potential like for example you can do a Rey and Leia novel, a Kylo novel during his rule, a Finn and Poe novel or maybe even a Lost Stars sequel.

Lots of great ideas here. I haven’t read the middle grade collections but more of them would be great, you could focus on lots of different groups or time periods with it. Ideally I would want a big series like The High Republic for The Old Republic, but I like the trilogy idea as well. If they wanted to, they could even do multiple trilogies that are mostly standalone but also reference one another, like the stories in that era did in Legends

i would love a 3 book, dramatic middle grade book series about petro, katooni, byph, gungi, ganodi and zatt. the first is a strong lead in, the second is about order 66, and the last one is their attempts at survival. maybe even a second post order 66 novel. i wonder how a middle grade book series would handle the death of main characters, and there's really a lot of untold characterization that could be done with them all.

I like the last idea with Obi Wan but I think it would be the perfect opportunity to bring in John Jackson Miller (and if you wanted to let him write a new trilogy of books I would be more than happy to read them)

Actually thinking about it I think it would be neat to see a trilogy in the CW era (not my favorite but could shed more light on the timeline) where you get a book focused on Obi Wan another on Anakin and a third bringing them back together. I would also love a new series of books post ROTJ pre TFA. There’s still tons unexplored there and Shadows of the Sith is one of if not my absolute favorite in the new cannon

Yes! I loved Test of Courage and really loved Mission to Disaster, but Race to Crashpoint was a terrible middle because it wasn't really the middle. The YA Out of the Shadows was a better middle than Race to Crashpoint.

I would really have liked to have a short story collection where it was all the other SW: the clone wars episodes that didn't make it. The boba Fett arc where he gets his own Mando armor and works side by side then against cad bane would be amazing to see. It's dumb with this detail since it's over explaining but it was how boba Fett got his little dent on his helmet. We already got Ahsoka and Ventress' plot lines adapted through books / reworked into the final season but we never got that moment officially where Obi-wan and Anakin talked about her leaving the order and with the little bit of stilted animation and voice acting it was chilling stuff to hear Anakin confront Obi-wan with the idea of him possibly being lost like Ahsoka and obi-wan's response just being that he wouldn't rest easy and being just unnerved. (insert reference to the Obi-wan show)

Btw that arc was one where General Grevious tries to steal a kyber crystal (that would eventually lead into the death star's creation) and just was a basic but fun episode alluding to revenge of the sith. (This arc also would've had the introduction of the weird lizard mount Obi-wan rides in the movie) All of these are on KZbin that you can see for yourself. Idk how this would fit into cannon anymore but there was even plans that you can look up for having an inclusion of the yuuzhan vong (legends timeline for the new Jedi order) and having them try to assess the republic's strength for an incoming invasion. (Because it's hard to see those guys in cannon I kinda just say skip that short story :c bummer but I think some of the other ones could fit in a short story collection. Plus I'd like to add new stuff like seeing a maul short story after the stuff from his son of dathomir comic or even developing other clone wars characters we didn't see enough of like a story with kit fisto, tarkin, another Ahsoka story? Idk ... These were just my idea :c

I’d like to see a spotlight on Dr Chelli Aphra, a character introduced in Marvel’s SW comic book runs. Expand her background and character. Aphra has a small supporting cast; expand on that as well. Could be YA or adult.

They have a philosophical problem. They keep producing 1 shot novels to add backstory and support another product. A la Battle Scars for Jedi Survivor, New Rebellion for Rebels, Catalyst for Rogue One, Brotherhood for Obi-Wan, all of the garbage supporting Episode VII-IX. Tbh, most if new Canon is a series of unrelated 1-shots meant to be a prologue to another form of media. That is the problem. Where is my massive Saga such as Legacy of the Force or New Jedi Order. Where is my series arc with Main Characters doing something galaxy-spanning and amazing. In my opinion, The High Republic has been better storytelling due to its temporal separation. It is sad when the best piece of Star Wars canon I have read is 2 episode Manga Edge of Balance.

I get that. I quite like a majority of the one-shots, but we need more interconnected stories. Thankfully the High Republic is fitting that void, and hopefully once HR wraps up in 2024-2025 we will get a new long form series.

Most of those books in legends took place post RotJ. I think a big issue is that we already know where Luke, Han, and Leia end up through the sequel trilogy but those movies received some pretty big backlash. There's barely any sequel era material being produced atm in any medium and tbh, I'd say it's probably the weakest era quality rise. Sure, we're getting a lot of New Republic era stuff atm with the live action shows but those seem way more closely tied to the Empire rather than the First Order. I think part of it is they want to put more time into where the take the sequel characters in the future to avoid backlash and all the big connecting storylines are largely being relegated to the tv shows outside of the High Republic which hasn't yet got its footing in the tv series world.
