Suicide Squad: Kill The Nuance

I beat Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and after about 15 hours of playing this game, I have thoughts. Not just about the game, but the conversations and exaggerated outrage surrounding it.

I'd make the argument that a mediocre game, especially one set in such a beloved game universe, is subjectively "worse" than a game that is objectively bad. Bad games have a charm to them in the way that bad movies do, but games like suicide squad are just soulless mush. It has no charm and no love, it's a bland corporate product without a single original idea.

I can agree with that, and there are many times in the game where I can see where executive meddling affected things. But there are so many people acting like this is such a monumental blight as if we're experiencing Fallout 76 or Gollum all over again. I don't expect folks to fork over $70 for this, not by a long shot. However, for some folks to be kicking and screaming over this like the Starfield pronouns guy... People need to calm down.

@@spectrebull It's fallout 76 on launch without the bugs and with worse monetization, a complete waste of its potential and the IP it's tied to. They made THE Arkham Batman one of the main villains, and he's...just a generic evil guy now? The game is called kill the Justice League, so you'd think a big part of it would be figuring out how to beat them, but... it's a shooter, so you just shoot them a bunch. What's the impact of killing the Justice League anyway? We've never met these versions of the characters besides one who's not in character anyway. Superman is one of the most popular characters in all of fiction yet we haven't had a version of him that isn't evil in video games for a very long time now. Outside of the concept of the game itself being flawed and the story being poorly executed, it's an open world, live service, third person looter shooter. Just by telling you that you will know everything to expect from the gameplay and mission design. Unlike the Arkham games where the gameplay was tailored around the concept of being batman, this gameplay is so generic that it would fit anything. I legitimately thought it was fortnite the first time i saw a clip of gameplay. Then there's such a lack of variety that even if you do enjoy the moment to moment gameplay it gets old very quickly. This game is a AAA produced wet fart that stinks up one of the best video game trilogies and 4 of the main characters of the DC universe, and never stops trying to get you to spend more money, I'd say that's infinitely worse than some shovelware on steam, and I'd definitely take something like Ride to hell retribution over it.

Just as a bad movie about a woman with prognostication powers trying to protect 3 young women would be nowhere near as bad as Madame Web and the 3 Spider Individuals, and a guy who is basically "70's series in a black suit Spider... person".

The fact that Harley Quinn kills Arkham Batman just doesn't look or feel right to me. I wouldn’t call this a superhero game. It's a super villain game. You play as bad guys and kill your favorite heroes. I don’t like that idea. But I think there is some merit to what haters are saying. It seems like a pattern. Gotham Knights is a game I tried and enjoyed despite all the hate I saw. I enjoyed it. Still play it.

I totally get what your are saying about we play as villains and are supposed to kill our favorite superheroes but I got a question for that. Q: How many games that are made that you can actually do that tho? Sure, it will always be fun to play as our heroes but sometimes that thought comes to mind saying “hey, what if you get to be a villain this time?”

@@jordankennerknecht4929 yeah but that's just bad writing, similar to how they retconned like Amanda Waller is supposed to be dead in the Arkhamverse (Shot by Deadshot the ACTUAL original), Boomerang shot by Deadshot, King Shark head exploded by Amanda Waller, one of the enemies you have to capture in the game was killed by Jason Todd, the fact that Arkham Asylum is supposed to be shut down and closed. You see all that they just ignored when making Suicide Squad? And the multiverse stuff is so crappy imo. The first time we see the JL they are getting whooped by street level thugs. (As for King Shark being on par with Superman in terms of strength 💀, you want to know how many plot holes that makes? Sure in the comics it's that way but how do you explain King Shark staying in captive at Arkham Asylum if he's the same mf who's as strong as Superman. He could just walk out they can't do anything. And then Boomerang and the rest of the crew stuck a bomb inside his head when his skin is supposed to be as strong as Supermans? Massive overlook and that text was just to try to excuse their poor writing) It doesn't excuse the repetitiveness of the game after an hour of gameplay, mind you there is 8 hours of gameplay on average. As for the theory on Flash's finger? People tend to overlook he also had all 10 fingers when he knocked the bullet out of Harley way, when the scene before he had one cut off. It's just a developers mistake that they overlooked. The problem was never the justice League dying, it's HOW they died. They could have been much better. Instead they all die from shooting them to death while the boss fights have a total of 3 moves 💀 I could go further in detail but it isn't needed

Kinda questioning how you think the story is good? What did you like from it? Have you played the previous Arkham games? Just curious. While I do agree that the games graphics and gunplay look okay they are a clear downgrade from what they released in the past so I think people are grading it based on that which I feel it somewhat fair since it was the studios previous work. The game to me just feels way to obvious of a marketing job with how they just barely connect it to the Arkhamverse to try to get those fan to buy into it.

I just found the story to be funnier and better written in terms of how the Squad interacts with each other and Waller. Yes, the Justice League getting killed off the way they do is underwhelming. And the final boss against Brainiac was garbage. But for the most part, I enjoyed it for what it was. And yes, I have played all 4 Arkham games. I do not care about comparing two different games.

@@spectrebull while the squad dynamic with each other is alright( I personally don’t like many of their jokes as they just don’t appeal to me) that does not really make an engaging story tho and the whole multiverse thing makes characters like Lex and the new Joker feel meaningless to me. Also I just can enjoy how they clearly limited themselves by putting it in the Arkham universe but not putting any real effort to make it feel connected to it. If you take out the whole museum section would you be able to tell that it is in the Arkham timeline? Also based on what you have said I hope you can agree with how this game should not have been 70 for what we got. Maybe 40 but with the battle pass and micro transactions I would say it should be less. Most of the things in the game seem to be a negative at least for most of us who aren’t interested in cash grab boring versions of looter shooters. There is little enemy variation and the loot just seems really dull. While gameplay can be solid at times there are games out there that do it better such as Sunset Overdrive and Spider-Man which I feel they took a small bit of inspiration from the former.

Most of my ire is towards the KZbinrs and streamers who are acting like its the most horrendous game they've played. And I am in total agreement with the multiverse thing, but thats where I recognized corporate meddling cramming its fingers into the game. You can kind of tell there was an internal power struggle during development.

I'd disagree, they could've made a really awesome Suicide Squad game if they had gone the Hitman or XCom route and made it where missions can be completed based around what Villian you were using or what squad you set up to attack or extract a target and particular skill sets are crucial in keeping your villains alive. They went with a generic arcade 3rd person shooter and it sucks. What is this game really besides a cheap push for live service with an Fortnite/by way of Infamous esque game wearing the discarded entrails of Arkham Batman. Its souless, and yes other creators are incredibly reactionary but the gaming crowd will always be reactionary. And while this isn't a crime against humanity. I'm not exactly crying for WB Games reputation.

@@spectrebull that'd be pretty cool, imagine each duplicate being completely distinct. If somebody goes down or you pop em you kinda get a random chance at a getting a cyborg version or a vampire or the Earth 2 version.

I had a really good time with this game :) the loop is satisfying and fun, enough to get me solidly into the post-story content. excited for joker!

Why do i feel sefton only write the frist draft and when he left sweet baby inc took over. Like main concept brainic attack Metropolis and kill justice league that i feel is Hill. I don’t mind thing like it take places Metropolis because we’re seen Gotham to mush. So i like Idea to take places outside in Gotham. That don’t not mind. However is kinda empthy i get is Alien invasion, i mean like there should be character in some places i don’t know. Riddle and riddler Trophic is fun. But i feel so little compare, there some part can riddler just make more riddles and get his goons put stuff. In arkham city yes was only 60 riddles in total, but there like took places everywhere. Could rocksteady just put riddles in batcave or hall of justice or more Metropolis Please James Gunn and rocksteady. If do more arkham games, just make superman or the flash spin off prequel thing.

Perhaps its the superhero movie fatigue talking, but I didn't find it enjoyable. It was funny in some areas, boring in others, and overall, I felt they were juggling too many balls in how they were trying to give every character their own moment. I can see why folks liked it, though, and I can appreciate that. I just don't think superhero movies are my cup of tea anymore. More power to those who did like it, and I hope they get more of what they want.

Idk why tfx would fight the jl. The squad is a covert squad with special tallents. The thing is nobody will question why these bad guys are together besides like batman. In assult on arkham aka a suiciee squad movi3 the reason amanda doesnt just send an army to kill riddler is because there would be no way to cover up the inolvment that she had. Why would amanda need to be covert if she is killing the most powerful people on earth in motropolis. She has a lot of power she only uses a covert squad that wont be quesrioned because nobody would question it people will question why argus helped kill the justice league its anything but covert Plus their dynamic is lesd interesting its shark is dumb boomer is loud and annoying harley is harley abd deadshot is serious. Assult on arkham they had opiniond on eacgother. Plus they are bringing back nora freeze instead of killer frost because they dont want the rule 3- Just Because
