If he was already a pro and there was suspicion that he cheated in Minor qualifiers etc. sure give him a lifetime ban but for an alt account that probably hacked in MM and that's vaguely connected to him by his parents CC card? I guess so, but also valve has to prove that someone cheated on that account, right? Other than that, the entire story doesn't make any sense. You can buy and gift games to other steam accounts. So the "friend" just had to make a steam account and install the gifted game, then jamppi wouldn't even be associated with anything. Nontheless, steams regulations are utter bullshit in regards to VAC bans. You can't even use all features of a game as a REGULAR player (i think in csgo it was the broadcast function or something like that), if you have a VAC ban, NO MATTER how old it is. So you get access blocked to some features for a thing that might or might not have done 10, 15, 20 years ago, which is absolutely ridiculous. I mean, what the hell, even MURDERERS get condonation at some point, yet cheating is a grave sin somehow.

Despite both of the teams using pixel boosts Fnatic were the ones to get backlash because their boost was better. Valve decided to replay the match however Fnatic forfeited. this situation is the real world equivalent of your friend cheating off your homework in highschool while you use the bathroom, unaware of them doing so. they get caught and the teacher implicates you in it. Instead of listening to you or having an appropriate measure taken such as losing a letter grade for the course (as the teacher cannot readily prove that you are telling the truth), you get permanently blacklisted from every big name, reputable college/university (assuming you wanted to go). Jamppi's situation speaks to the growing problem in esports: there is this strange pattern that accountability is often a permanent punishment. This wouldn't really be much a problem if the following conditions were satisfied: 1. The party/parties involved fully understand the ramifications of their actions and are mature enough to readily understand the impact their decisions have on their futures and have the wisdom to think things through 2. The actions committed would have permanently impacted the other players if not discovered (For example, cheaters in tournaments winning money that truthfully would've been won by someone else had it not been revealed such as forsaken cheating at a CSGO major, not losing an online public match to someone aimhacking), or are so extreme/egregious that a lifetime ban is warranted (Former Boston Uprising Mouffin's situation of sexually harassing and preying on underage girls, according to KhaleesiBB). 3. The intent by said party/parties was thoroughly malicious. It's not necessarily that Jamppi shouldn't be held accountable. He should understand that you really should not account share regardless of how close you are with your friends as it will be your name on whatever actions they take with it. But is that something most people would really think about and understand at the age of 14, when all you want to do is have fun with your friends? No. Most players are worrying about having their items stolen or traded away when account sharing at that age. Does that warrant a lifetime ban from your aspiring professional career because your friend cheated with it? No. It's the same with FaZe Jarvis being permabanned for a silly content video about cheating through demonstration. It's the same problem with players being locked into these often predatory contracts at ages of 14, 15, 16, 17 that heavily affect and restrict their future, but goes unnoticed and not-fully-understood in the heat of the moment of wanting to go pro (FaZe Tfue). It's the same with there now being upward of a billion dollars in an industry where the majority of the professional playerbase is under 25 (for example, League of Legends avg age rose from 20.94 in 2014 to 22.45 last year according to Riot Games). There is clearly a disconnect between the maturity and wisdom of game developers, company heads, org leaders, etc *who are mature adults* and the youthful playerbase that wants to go pro in their games and this industry. Players should be held accountable, but perhaps this industry needs to really rework what accountability looks like as many of the lifetime bans that we're seeing just feel wrong and somewhat worse than not punishing the players at all. Perhaps there needs to be more resources for young players/gamers to help transition them into understanding how to think about the long term effects of their actions so that they really understand that contract they're about to sign or that video they're about to make or that bad decision they're going to make by using cheats. Perhaps companies like Valve/Epic Games need to reanalyze their policies and stop handing out often draconian punishments to players that make mistakes because of youth and naivety, and save them instead for the players who intentionally cheat at actual major tournaments such as Forsaken at a CSGO Major or XXiF/Ronaldo during Fortnite World Cup (if those players should receive lifetime bans at all). Perhaps companies should really start paying attention to the context in which crimes-against-their-code-of-conduct occur and ask if the player satisfied the three above conditions (which are by no means an end all be all) to warrant a lifetime ban. Perhaps there should be a three-strikes-you're out system. I'm not against punishing cheating. I feel that cheating is a scourge in esports and instantly ruins games and there should be a punishment for those that do it. But I do not think a "No-Tolerance, Lifetime Ban" approach to cheating without really hearing and analyzing the context in these cases is appropriate/the right answer, especially when it comes to esports' titles and the typical age group in question.

If Valve claims that they concluded after investigation that the account was under Jamppi's control when it was banned (which it didn't have to be according to their policy), then doesn't that mean that they had some sort of proof that it wasn't actually his friend using it? I would imagine they could just pull up the IP logs for the account and it would be linked to him.

Let me give you another example of how dump this rule about the relationship between accounts is. I am 43 years old and almost 18 years ago I purchased my first Counter Strike, only few months before the release of the Source version. I was a big fan of the game, never played anything else, I also worked for a while for ESL Bulgaria as Admin and never used any of the hack in-game, it was common to start hack while reviewing video from a game, but for me, there is not fun in playing with hacks and I never used them in game. Fast forward 15 years, I have a wife and a kid. He likes the video games and his uncle buys him a copy of CS:Source as a birthday gift in order to let him play with us, my son was 12 years old at that point. I have setup the account and added my phone number in order to protect the account with the Steam Guard. He had no phone at that point so I had no other option but to use mine. Two years after, my son used some hacks with some of his friends and get his account banned, obviously I was the first one to let him know it was well deserved, but a day after I found out my account was also banned because it had the same phone number as the one my son had. I tried to explain the situation to Valve but quickly enough understood they are not interested on knowing if I was playing on the second account and for them the simple fact I own both account was enough, to which I just said that 15 years ago we actually bother to know if someone cheated before we ban them but seems like things are now different. So yeah, I can relate to this case, never played a Valve game since then and never will.
@brodomagee79414 жыл бұрын
"How do VAC bans relate to phone numbers? VAC bans are applied to all accounts sharing a phone number at the time of the infraction. For this (and many other) reasons we do not recommend sharing your phone number or using another user's phone number on your Steam account. Accounts sharing the phone number that do not own the game the VAC ban is for will still receive a VAC ban and will not be able to purchase the game moving forward. There are no restrictions placed on phone numbers that were on an account when the account was VAC banned; phone numbers can immediately be used on new accounts." So really its just a money thing for valve....

Let me get this straight. Allegedly he had a friend who cheated on an account 5 years ago at a lan party. Since he's the one that made the account and bought the game he gets banned for it? Valve needs to drop this ban, even if he was the one hacking. I guarantee most kids at 14 years old or younger were loading up some form of cheats in games.
@MrVilburi4 жыл бұрын
First of all, by creating an account and purchasing games off Steam, you have accepted the terms and conditions, which clearly states what cheating will result in. Valve is a business afterall and they have the right to choose their customers. You are on thin ice if you're trying to battle against the T&S. Second of all, the point in the video which stated that Jamppi wasn't cheating himself, but sold the account to a friend who then hacked without Jamppis knowledge is wrong. Here in Finland (not sure about elsewhere), a sale is NOT a proof of ownership change. So therefore, having sold that account to his friend, he still legally owned that account. I'm sure that Jamppi and his layers etc are aware of all these things, but what I'm seeing here is underdog trying to fight a massive corporation with a very thin chance of actually getting what they are looking for. Though I'm genuinely interested to see what happens, this might even chance Valves policies on VAC's for the future.

What many people seem to forget is the fact that the Bosman verdict changed UEFA and FIFA regulations as well as conduct. IF Valve plays this wrong - as they seem to do - they will not only have a Jappi verdict to worry about as this escalates to EU courts, it will also trigger an investigation by the EU Commission. (After all, they lost a court battle against consumer protection in Australia, didn't they ?) This again will finally end up in huge fines against the major corporations as well as a plethora of regulations. As the regulative power of the EU is unsurpassed on a global market scale this does not bode well for anyone. Does any gamer want the EU to regulate his game ? Does any of the product managers of companies like Valve/Steam, Wargaming, EA etc. (to name a few from different countries) want new regulations to threaten their business models or retroactively punish them with epic fines (oh, I forgot Epic) ? My plea to Valve and others is: self-regulate fairly and in unison or be regulated and make this lawsuit go away or face the grueling consequences. There is too much money involved by now and too many kids affected by this industry. If there is blood in the water politicians will jump at the chance to be seen as effective, protective and tough. So, Valve. You got 2 billion $ in revenues ? Great. That will be 500% in punitive damages then (taken from typical GDPR and transport logistics fines). Thank you. (Sorry for being so alarmist but I really hope someone finally reads this.)

Exactly. Using steam or playing one of valves games' is a privilege. He or someone he trusted violated that agreement, and now he has to pay the price. TLDR actions have consequences. Welcome to the real world kid.

you guys didn't even mention the main point of jamppi's lawsuit. the reason why he made it is because valve stopped listening and he wants his voice to be heard. he said this on his stream. he thinks maybe this will finally make valve do something

They want valve to pay 290k$ for damages when they jump over the TOS fence in the first place. Kewk
@mikaelryynanen174 жыл бұрын
Well the TOS wouldn't have stopped Jamppi from signing with OG. If he would have signed with them he would have had a monthly salary of 11k which in a 2 year contract makes about the sum that he is suing Valve for. The salary is confirmed by some OG players I believe. He honestly would have possibly made even more money than that from tournaments. And btw going to court isn't the point of this case. They are just trying to get Valve's attention with this and hopefully get to contact with them and try to remove the VAC ban from Jamppi's name so he can compete at the highest level.

That's basically the story of v$m, a brazilian player who was vac banned with 14 years and now it's probably the best brazilian pro player for joining in a great team, but he can't
@VNTRFilms4 жыл бұрын
Like mentioned below, Valve is stretching out the "rule" way too far. If he wasn't a pro back then, sure go ahead and play. I call big bullshit if someone here claims that NO OTHER pro players has ever cheated in a source game or any game for that matter. Maybe not recently but before going pro. And if this "Major ban" isnt in the ToS, its a clear case. Besides, the finnish consumer protection act is something Valve cant disregard. A young kid isnt mature enough to understand what he or she is doing and therefore this act by Valve is unreasonable.
@danielfailed36924 жыл бұрын
he has no proof it was "his friend" cheating, hell if I had the chance to go pro I'd blame my friend also lmao

unfortunately, he won't be un banned, I have yet to find out why I was banned on MW3 5 years ago, I played on Valve secured servers, never used any third party cheat software, and never lost my anger at anyone in game. Now my email I used to use for steam was closed back in 2012, so maybe they thought it was a bot account and since that was my most played game at the time, they must have thought I was cheating there. Using some method they could not see. It has been 2710 days (at the time of writing this.) since the ban and even after changing to a registered email and verifying it within 200 days, I have yet to be un banned, I can't prove my innocence, and I get kicked from nearly every game where they check my profile. Thankfully, I'm now 19, and to their credit, they had me at 1000 days believing I deserved it, I don't know why but I surely did, I mean, when has a massive corporation ever made a mistake right? I'm the cheating scum that should die in a fire. if any churches still do that let me know in a reply please. I find it funny today, because Valve's shoot first ask questions later policy is one I am so used to after playing Dayz, and I can see why they're biased. Yet if I take the same approach with them, I am still the bad guy. So let me take a breath and calm down. This kid, who has an esport team behind him, money for a lawyer, and the know how to go about it, won't be in the pro scene. Because valve is so headstrong and prideful in VAC, that I don't see anyone thinking he can win. Maybe without the financial claim they might have a better chance, as valve literally just clicks their mouse a few times and boom that's it. They're not losing anything financially so, while they won't learn, the kid might get to live his dream. And people, really think, if you get a vac ban and you don't know it until you try to play that game. That ruins all esport opportunities you may have had. Let's say JW get's one tomorrow for using the r8 and the overwatchers think he's walling. Valve will have to abide by it and say "Sorry JW, even though you made us millions in sticker sales, We have to abide by our policy. Best of luck." And FNATIC have to let him go. No smurf account, no making a new account. He's just gone, we know he didn't cheat. He's played in enough majors to have been detected. But the newer CS:GO players will have the same responses we are having now to Jamppi. When did it suddenly become "Guilty until proven innocent"? Something this career damaging, 1: you should know about it at least, maybe a heads up display on steam saying "SORRY CHEATER SCUM" or something where it flashes "VAC" behind the text or something. 2: There should be some sort of communal hearing, at least an appeal process. Again, if JW got banned, we'd rally behind him because we know he wasn't cheating. And hell, there are people reviewing cheats on youtube, You just have to look. I found one channel, Lucky. To my knowledge the accounts he used in those demonstrations are not banned, he doesn't blur the name in the kill feed, and he gets away with it. Valve will never change, they will always shoot first and ask questions later because who's gonna stop them? Who really can compete with them? not Blizzard, they might be close with Cod games but they just don't make the same financial profits as valve does. Also to anyone wondering, I was born in 2000, 04, 30. So, I was 15, and if they won't do it on a small account where it would not hurt their reputation at all, they won't do it for something major. They are setting an example. Now, if Anyone wants to "Talk with a Vac ban account holder" I am willing to discuss my situation. Though it makes little sense why anyone would want to do that. I am after all, cheater scum that needs to burn in hell for eternity. Isn't that right valve?

In my eyes its very simple: you are in any way associated with any cheating activities? Get banned. I dont get how people think there is ok and not ok cheating. like, he installed cheats to beat a friend in a 1v1? Fine, you choose to cheat and therefore you dont deserve anything less than a ban. 0 tolerance on cheaters and people related to cheaters, period.
@deusvult73444 жыл бұрын
Yikes. I would never cheat in a ranked or even in a normal game but man. I love love to tilt my friends in an 1v1 cuz it's fun.

i have the same issue.... i play americas army proving ground(free first person shooter) i also play cs go and have acces to 4/5 accounts from friends to play cs go on because i am LEM on my main and i rank them up for them so we can play together. i have one school friend that hes an account with a vac ban from like 16 years ago from an older CS version(i dont even know what i only play cs go) BUT her comes the thing......to play americas army u need to first log on to ur steam account and then open it and also saperated login to americas army... one day (after i played some cs go on hes account) i wanted to play some americas army. so instead of login out off my friends account and logg on to mine i just opened my americas army and logged in TRUE hes account..... so thats what made my Americas army account LINKED to this vac banned steam account....and it will never be remove, so i am now being punished for what my friend did all these years ago now in 2020.... and i never cheated in my life simply because i play on hes account a DIFFRENT GAME .
