I'm currently watching the whole series and this one might have been a favorite. I love this dynamic of the killer becoming increasingly annoyed with Columbo's shenanigans. The previous two eps had underwhelming endings, and at first I thought it was gonna be a case of "Columbo found clue we couldn't have known about off-screen" but the fingerprint reveal was genius! I think this is the best approach, don't reveal EVERYTHING about the killer's motives and plan right away, save some reveals for later.

I love that moment when Kingston says: Oh don't worry it'll be ok-- -- *Columbo walks in* His face: Oh shit!

This is a classic episode-arguably one of the best. Between the remarkable opening where the paintings virtually bear witness in horror to their owner's murder to the unexpected ending this story never disappoints.

Best episode of the season with one of the greatest most memorable endings of the series. The killer is also one of the most intelligent, smartest people of the series & once again the killer has a woman complisent to the crime. However she's just smartly killed off before she can cost any problems. With anyone else he gets away with the crime but he's dealing with Columbo.

The old man is playing Chopin's Etude Op. 10 No 3 in the beginning. The composer uses fragments (motive forms) of the etude to create most of the soundtrack to this episode. The highly chromatic diminished sevenths in succession lend themselves really well to the sinister nature of this murder!

This is a prime example on why I love Columbo so much and how good it was. Very few actor become their characters where the actor just disappears. Peter Falk was one of them I didn't see an actor playing a part I saw Columbo. I would like to throw A Friend in Deed into the ring as one of the best gotcha moments. The ending is brilliant and just as good imo. As he got older he dropped the idiot routine but never lost his outstanding detective skills. There is nothing better than watching Columbo get his criminal. This will always be one of the best shows ever.

Some tiny detail here. At 7:19 you can see the white sticker with an black D in it(very old sheed metal type). This had to be used on cars in Germany if you want to drive into other European countries. With the new licence plate type this is no longer needed. Outside the EU you still need them. In this case it means the car is imported and used. An imported new car does not have this sticker. Maybe some witness remember this fairly rare car. The sticker is like a red siren. A very important clue if neccesary.

I'm kind of surprised at how good "Suitable for Framing" since I tend to associate Hy Averback with sitcoms. On the other hand, I am such a fan of Jackson Gillis' work on Columbo that, after decades, I finally started watching Perry Mason reruns because I noticed that Gillis was the associate producer for several seasons. He even managed to write a good episode of The Man from U.N.C.L.E., despite its being from season 3, having Mark Slade stand in for Napoleon Solo, and guest-starring Joan Collins in a dual role. That version of "Pictures at an Exhibition" sticks in my head too, although not in a good way.

a great episode, especially with the rapport between peter falk and ross martin; at least a few people have talked about the actress who posed nude for the painting, but does anyone know the name of the actress who played the lady cop who walked down the steps to test columbo's theory of the crime? the brunette? she only appeared in that one scene;

To each his own, of course; but I've never enjoyed Suitable for Framing that much. Great "gotcha" moment at the end, and some wonderful scenes, but to me the problem has always been the villain: smarmy, but comically so... he looks a bit pathetic through the whole episode, with his forced car salesman smile. Maybe I didn't like the casting. BTW thanks for the video!

Little known fact is that the Columbus part was first offered to Bing Crosby and his partner Bob Hope All the statute tipping started with the people throwing money at the statutes of Columbus passed by Congress. Thusly Columbus became a famous detective and in the 50s they made a TV series about it starring Hope and Crosby. Crosby also started singing with his family in Crosby, Stills & Nash but they wouldn’t let Hope in the group because of his jokes about stills.

Statutes are laws on the books. Statues are carved or cast figures of people or animals.
@rickrick50413 жыл бұрын
@louise deprez Certainly this has been a boner of contention. I’ll attempt to clear it up. It was all about how he solved the Guanahani puzzle. Columbus was falsely blamed as being racist and discovering America but the truth is on his way to America he learned it was racist. He turned back saying he would not discover any country that was so racist as later proven when Choivin was convicted of 4 counts of racism. Instead he headed for the first place nearby that was not racist and mostly black 1619 BLM which was: After a two-month voyage, Christopher Columbus landed on an island in the Bahamas he called San Salvador-though the people of the island called it Guanahani. Columbus became a famous detective and in the 50s they made a TV series about it starring Hope and Crosby. Recently, they changed it to Columbo but it came from Columbus.
