The thing is, Su-27 is not only about slow maneuvering. There are videos where Su-27 completes a full 360 turn in less than 15 seconds (12,7 seconds in one instance). Best I have seen for F-22 is ~20 seconds. I have no solid data about eurofighter, but I am pretty convinced even baseline Su-27 will have no problem matching eurofighters E-M performance, unlike F-22.

At 2:04, If you weren't paying attention that it was an SU-35, you'd think for a moment you may be looking at an F-14 Tomcat. That must be why I love the SU-35 too...and it can hold its own. I salute the people who came up with the SU-35's design.

WOW! The flat spin maneuvers would have resulted in a crash for most other fighters. At the end the pilot shuts down the engines and is falling vertically out of the sky in full stall with full control. He re-fires and flies off with no drama at all!!! Amazing what a rock solid airframe, thrust vectoring, and a good G-suite on a great pilot can all do together.

First TVC fighter in operational service was Su-30MKI in India, 2002. +/- 15 deg. vertical. Second was F-22 in United States, 2005. +/- 20 deg. vertical. Third was Su-35S in Russia, 2012. Its Saturn 117 engines feature both horizontal and vertical thrust deflection, although I don't know (it's probably not public info anyway) how much degrees can it offset. This video presents first public show of a first military commissioned fighter jet equipped with two-axis thrust vectoring.

This is not late 1980's Su-35 (Su-27M). This is mid 2000's deep upgrade internally designated as Su-35BM, in VVS service as Su-35S - the plane shown in video. And it features both axis thrust vectoring, making Russia first country to field jet fighter with 3D nozzles.

I know VVA-14. It was a wonderful experimental aircraft. It was supposed to have 8 vertical fans to lift up but was not installed later it was scrapped. You have other wonderful machines Yak-141, Buran, Caspian Sea Monster Erkanoplan, Ekip aircraft but that's history. I would look forward to integration of Yak 141 and T-50 Pak Fa.

Nothing flies like a Super Flanker. The Flanker airframe is so perfect that nobody has ever been able to top it. Add 3D thrust-vectoring and I sometimes doubt that there's anything that it can't do.

I don't care about the pro-US/pro-Russia discussions here. I was at Le Bourget on Saturday. Ceiling was at 2000ft improving momentaril to 2500ft. As a result the pilot was only authorised to do the "bad weather" display. It literally raised the hairs at the back of your neck. The Rafale demonstrations were impressive. It's ability to shed speed and seem to stall in the sky were wondrous. The Su-35 demonstrated sheer power. It didn't have the ceiling to "fall" as you see here. But it was chilling

Also remember, this is still, basically the first iteration of the F-22. You can count on it being continually being upgraded until the inception of 6th gen aircraft around 2030. It's also likely that the F-22 will be used to pioneer and be the test bed for 6th Gen technologies. Near future? Passive sensors, cyber warfare (think ECM jamming on crack), ADVENT engines, better stealth etc. Further down the road? Hyper-cruise, directed energy weapons, and a few other concepts.

Thanks. It is important because good plane is just 50% of success. I saw Anatoly Kvochur in Dęblin, PL, few years ago. He can make "cobra" and "bell" - (I am not sure it is correct in english, just translate straight from polish) on Su-27. I remember he was one of few pilots in the world with that skills.

You r wrong. Formely Su-35 was the name of export version of Su-27M, but this Su-35 is different. It has new engines, new avionics, new phased array radar, new weapons. It's one step from PAK-FA.

Of course I was referring to the engagements between MiG15s and F86s. Considering that conflict made 39 DIFFERENT aces I don't call it a side show. Their job was not too shoot down B-29s. It was to provide air support, against all aircraft types along the Yalu River. The mixed it up with F-86s just as often as they engaged B-29s. They did down eight B-29s in one day. That single mission lead to the cessation of daylight raids. They had NO effect on the overall bombing campaign or CAS missions.

F22 is a performance and outstanding piece of machinery, as it is its little brother - F35. The problem of F22 is that it comes with a big price tag and joint strike F35 programs suffers major budget problems. USA could never get enough F22! Comparing the dogfight capabilitys, the Eurofighter or Su35 are both at least equal if not superior to F22. F22 is large and it suffers losing its lift after using trust vectoring to achieve high AOA. Eurofighter withoth TV and with a simple canars can achieve higher AOA without stalling. And this about F22 and F35 stealth capabilities: Eurofighter can detect both in a rage of 50 kilometers using FLIR system. Also Eurofighter can be quite stealty to both of them since its forward radar jamming prevents its detection in a range above 40 kilometers. F22 is only "stealthy" when not using its radar, radios and is not firing a missile or performing in flight refuelling. Russian SU35 is in its own league. New radars can detect F22 even when flying in stealth mode far before entering WVR. Its agility ans high AOA are out of this world. So all of the planes are unike piece of machinery, but simply saying USA's are better is childish. Nazi Panzer 4 tank was also techicaly superior to all others, but suffered badly in Russian winter conditions. It was fine example of over engineered machinery that did not achieved its goal.

As a proud American, I have great respect for all of the Soviet/Russian achievements in aviation and space exploration. They have produced a large number of amazing fighters over the years, and this one just continues that tradition. They also produce some amazing pilots. The USA and Russia are the two greatest nations in the world, in my opinion.

I dont need any of those info to rate turning ability (deg/s). Airspeed can be calculated, elevation can be estimated. Other conditions apply to all aircraft participating the airshow. If one happens to be doing same maneuvers more quickly, how I am wrong to conclude it is better? Weapons affect smaller aircraft more than larger ones. If you are telling me 21+ ton Su-27 can't manage 800 kg of AAMs, then you are alone in that assumption. Drag? Su-27SK manual says it can go M2.35 with 4 missiles.

Some say it's a completely new plane based on the numbers of modifications it went through: it has new radar and targeting systems, new navigation system BINS-SP2 with laser gyroscopes and satellite transmitters (twice more accurate than previous ones on Russian planes and 40% cheaper in production than the same systems on the market), aerodynamically improved airframe, partial RAM coating and metallised cockpit glass, etc.

This is Russian Air Force's Su-35S, they have ordered 48 with another 48 coming up after 2015. PAK FA is still in testing phase. You are right, they won't "restock" with Su-35S, but PAK FA won't be serving in big numbers until 2020, and in the period between 2015-2020 new Flankers (Su-35S, Su-27SM3, Su-30SM) are going to be VVS's backbone. The export model of this aircraft is designated Su-35BM and comes with downgraded sensors and without sensitive Russian comm equipment.

Есть всего 6 летающих су-35 - в пилотажной группе "Витязи" - это подразделение только для показухи, самолеты для боя не оснащены. Делались из су-27 путем замены части авионики и установки новых двигателей, причем половина из них переделывалась самими "Витязями" - об этом в свое время много писали, когда обсуждалась вся эта афера с "новым истребителем". These manoeuvres aren't useful in combat but the point of thrust vectoring would be stall recovery or stalls being a thing of the past altogether and that IS very useful.

Even I'm know what f-22 is using external active radar systems, which "designed to detect aircraft, ships and vehicles at long ranges and control and command the battle space in an air engagement by directing fighter and attack aircraft strikes", for detect enemy planes. You can't have a 5th-generation jet fighter's stealth without it.

All u guys need to understand this plane is actually meant mainly for export. This plane does meet with every requirement to be considered as 5th generation but as well know the main feature of 5th generation is stealth capabilities. I don't think Russias will restock the whole airfleet with su-35. Just because it would be dumb when they've got pak-fa already ready for production.

Range itself is a limitation for helicopters. P-8A Poseidon have long range. Not only anti submarine, it also has an anti ship role and take action then and there. Only comparable system in Russia is Tu-142 but sea dragon suite was not working well 4 years ago. Russians must have rectified it now.

Кстати на видео скорее всего СУ-37. Их всего две штуки. Они были сделаны путем пероборулдывания уже Су-35 опять же установкой нового двигателя. Это вообще чисто экспериментальные машины из них летает только одна. И кстати, если уже говорить про TrustVectoring то пендозы делали аналогичные этой сушке эксперименты еще 15 лет назад. Например F-18 HARV и F-16 MATV Но всем им далеко до старичка харриера с ввп...
