I love your videos first of all but I will take issue with what I've heard many times from many KZbinrs including yourself. It's so strange to say a Thai or "local" neighborhood in Thailand! Wouldn't all of Bangkok be a "Thai or local neighborhood" since it's located in Thailand? Imagine if a Thai person went to Los Angeles for example and lived in downtown LA where they had many Thai friends who also lived in downtown LA, but they went out to Anaheim and said that it was a more "local or American neighborhood". Kind of strange right? Like what would that even mean? It sounds kind of insulting as if Thai people don't live in the luxury high rise condos or in the more "modern" neighborhoods and those areas are only reserved for non-Thais. I'm 1000% sure that no one means anything offensive by it, but it comes across as kind of like, "I live here along with other expats, but Thai's live "out there". Maybe another way to say it would be just simply it's further out from the more popular areas that most expats hang out in or there may not be as many expats that live out here if that's something that even matters. You did say that in this video about there may not be as many expats, and I get what you're saying, but it's just strange to hear " a local or Thai neighborhood" when talking about Thailand! Idk, just my opinion!

Thanks for the comment. It got me thinking. I'm not sure if you live in Thailand. Where I agree, it's all Thailand, it's very common for even Thai folks to say "that's a Thai building" Or that's a Thai local neighborhood. Almost like, Farang (foreigner) you don't belong there. Or you won't be happy with a building and a shared pit toilet down the hall. So often times, I'll just say that's a Thai style building. My building is 80% Thai and I'm not sure anyone would say this is a Thai style building. It's a western style with a pool, gym, roof deck, etc.. When I asked a realtor about XYZ building she said, are you sure that's a very Thai area. I'd guess 90% of expats from all over the world, not just the west live in the western style condos. That's just a fact. For $500, why not? Right or wrong, most expats still want a Starbucks on every corner. Or to speak English 99% of the time. That's not going to happen in a "Thai neighborhood" Of course they are both located in Thailand. But, some areas are just more geared to handle tourists and other foreign residents. Even that school I showed in the video St Andrews. I believe it's 20k-30k US, to send a kid for a year. It's in Bangkok. If you called that a local Thai school, you would be laughed at. I kind of understand the comparison to a Thai in downtown LA. Maybe there is a Little Thailand downtown. They would probably call that a Thai neighborhood. Even though it's in LA. But, if they moved to Anaheim and nobody spoke a word of Thai, they would say this is a very American area. No different that many expats in Bangkok. This is a very western style section of town, and this is a very Thai area. Of course its all America or Thailand. If you're Thai in LA do you might want to hang near Little Thailand. If you're an expat in Bangkok you'll have to make the same decision. I would never insult how anyone Thai or otherwise lives. But, I'll probably continue to point out, this is very Thai, etc.. I hate to think that way, but most of the people I know from the US, Canada, India, China, etc.. want to live in Bangkok, but also like a nice shopping mall. Of course you can live in an older building for $200 a month. Or a fancy building for $500 a month. I'm lucky to have that choice to make. As well as the 80% of Thai's in my building. Some of my Thai friends will also say, that's a very Thai style area. They understand, I'm a US guy, that area might be tricky for me to navigate. Just like a Thai person in Little Thailand downtown. Send them to Fontana and it will be trickier. Thanks again for the comment. I appreciate you watching. I probably will come up with another way to say this is a Thai area. Maybe I'll say it has less western options. But, if you live here, there will be no mistaking a 5K a month condo from a $150 month condo. Anymore than a $900 a month apartment in San Fernando and a $9000 a month condo in Beverly Hills. It's the same here in BKK.
