At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

In real life mahidevran hatun was sent away from the palace after she beat up hurrem. I can't remember how long for or if she ever even returned to the palace but she was definitely sent away. And she was never a sultana, talk less of haseki sultan .. the haseki title was literally created for hurrem by suleiman.

Its so hard to get the attentions of Sultan Suleiman when he has a harem full of beautiful women. Only few survives, those favorites who walks on a golden path are also fighting for Sultan Suleiman's attention. And those who can't hold on to their jealousy and angers ended up doing tricky, dirty works lost and suffered badly in the end. Sad but true.

Moral of the story don't send poison to the table of the man you claim to love so much!!! Mahidevran was impulsive and made a grave mistake. She tried to kill Hurrem and her unborn child "A dynasty member". How could any dynasty member ever forgive her for that?? Valide? Hatice? Sah? Fatma? Suleiman? they all knew what she did and let her get away with it. Her only punishment was losing the Sultans affections. No one other than Hurrem was ever held accountable in this show. Not to mention had the Sultan eaten the dessert he could've died. Was the plan to kill both the Sultan and Hurrem so that Mustafa would've been crowned Sultan??? I get why Suleiman doesn't trust her, she could've killed 2 dynasty member in one sitting.

I too wondered abt this punishment reitual It only applied to hurrem..but all others got away with any crime however disastrous it was Mahi tried to kill not only heavily pregnant hurrem but also the sultan None of them..incl suleiman,his mom,ibrahim ever thought it was a serious crime for which the punishment can only be death....how did they forget that they could have lost suleiman to the poison of mahi? In later epi,mahi refers to her crime as" just a mistake""😮😮

suleiman would avoid so much of this problem if he just stopped forcefully enslaving women, making his validation the only way for their survival and treating them so unfairly to create jealousy and h@tred among them. It's because his mother kept on forcing him. No other reason. The series exaggerated valide's role as the only one who sends girls to the sultan. Therefore he can't refuse but ignored her as soon as the door is closed.

Between Hafsa trying to select harem members that might please him, to his sisters cultivating girls on their own (most notably Hatice with Firuze or Fatma with Valeria) this was actually very much part of the "real historical". For Hafsa in particular, such acts were part of the function of the Valide position (that she used it to try to undermine Hürrem, however, is much more of an invention, of course).

Vittoria, I agree Mahidevran is selfish and arrogant. Had she humbled herself and worried about her son, maybe life would've been different for them. She became obsessed with hurrem and everything she did, in return she made her son a target and made herself look crazy. I get it tho but she had to be smarter and sadly she was not. Also, i don't like that she lies a lot and refuses to take accountability for her actions, she caused most of the harems problems.

Women were just pleasure seeking tools for the sultans, once they got bored they'd boot them out of their lives, end up killing their sons, the very same sons for whom they'd demand endlessly and woman unable to bear a son would be as if she didnt even exist, they'd say b*llshit like we need sons for continuing dynasty, then why on earth do you end up killing your own son? Real Suley was actually much better and had more dignity, than this womanizer, as it turned out. He would never keep hurting Hurrem like this, and like many other examples in these series. Real Suley threw Mahi away from the palace right after she tried to beat Hurrem up, in the very beginning. And since then, Mahi lived far away from the palace. She was never a "haseki", she wasn`t even beautiful. She never had that much of support from ANY of the prominent women in that palace, neither from Hafsa, nor from Hatice, nor from anyone else. So, Mahi was just a temporary Sultan`s favourite, who didn`t have any actual power. And back then it even didn`t matter too much, if Mustafa was Suley`s first son, because in those times the main deciding factor of everything was only a padishah`s word and will. So, the film`s scriptwriters made it aaaall up :)) - just for piling up the drama. And it`s interesting, how they sometimes try to portray the raising of mindfulness of some people in some situations, as if they had lived in our time, or as if it could have been happening in some parallel Universe. :))
