Would it be fair to say that the following process occurs? (1) Field geologist examines the morphology of the rock and makes decisions based on physical observations of samples as to whether they're worth collecting. (2) The exact location of the samples is noted (by GPS fixes?) and their appearance and other characteristics noted. (3) Samples returned to a facility for chemical examination to determine mineral and elemental content. (4) Economic analysis made to determine viability of extraction of whatever worthwhile compounds are found. Presumably, the exploration of certain areas is undertaken following satellite, aerial and field surveys looking for visual and magnetic indicators of target minerals. Hope you don't mind answering these questions as I'm keen to understand what happens in the field. Thanks.

I have a couple veins on my property which look very similar. Very dark purples, some of it crumbly. Other areas of my property look very different. What is the noticeable purple tint that looks like what you have? Larger pieces of quartz are also dark purple.

I know they're expensive, but would an handheld XRF analyzer be useful for what you do? Or do you need the more precise results from a lab assay?

It's good for initial analysis and initial prospecting but we would still need whole rock results. We may eventually get one.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that the really high quality sulfide deposits [that which is low in host rock] is pretty crumbly? It is what I am gathering over time from your videos, that even if the amount of base metals of higher value may be low compared to the iron content, that if it is mostly sulfides, to me, it seems that it tends to have crystals that cleave apart easily?

Most likely because the solid mineral veins if they are containing massive pyrite they are brittle and tend to deteriorate easy. if they have a Gangue material like quartz they hold together better but having an Gangue means less % mineral in the rock

@@911mining Okay so then if I find really brittle friable pyrites I should be pretty pure. (~_^)-b So far the only pyrite and chalcopyrite I have found came through the screen of my 500 foot deep well pump and were found in my filter housing. I also found those tiny pieces of metal that looked like tiny solder splatters which look to be some kind of actually solid [if mingled] metal, and not a sulfide. Its just too small to do anything with but instantly incinerate with a hand held torch.
