I have seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp, aka scalp eczema. Shampoos my dermatologists has recommended and I've used for years: nizoral (let sit in your hair and it kills the malassezia ) then second cleanse with either Selsun Blue Naturals with 3% salicyclic acid (declogs pores like sulfur and removes scales and calms inflammation). Do this once a month or however you prefer depending upon your scalp dermatitis. Or, if it is really inflamed and hurting you can use head and shoulders routinely or Selsun Blue Medicated routinely, but only Nizoral will be the most effective (proven by clinical studies). Second, do not use the Sulfur 8 in the yellow bottle. It has Cinnamate and other pure cinnamon derivatives. I took a topical allergy patch test from my dermatologist after presenting to him with inflamed scalp. Turns out the allergy test came back I'm allergic to Cinnamon and all cinnamon derivatives and what was I using? Sulfur 8 and a Lush Cinnamon shampoo bar. Since having this diagnosis I screen for any cinnamon derivative in my hair products and hair grease and do not use and it has been a big improvement. I use two Sulfur 8 products: Sulfur 8 in the Blue bottle which was made to exclude Cinnamate due to the it has a common allergen and I also alternate and use Sulfur 8 Fresh with 2% salicylic acid. Knowledge is power and please see your doctors. It took me years and suffering hair loss to figure out what works for my scalp and how scalp health affects hair health. Be well.

Thanks so much for sharing your regimine, Joy-el! I was seeing a dermatologist for my seborrheic dermatitis and using prescription shampoo and very expensive prescription oil ($70 per bottle). I've since replaced the shampoo with Nizoral (same active ingredients as prescription shampoo but OTC) and replaced the prescription oil with good old Sulphur 8. Voila! No more inflammation or itchy/flaky scalp. For less than $25, it's under control...without a co-pay to the specialist. THANK YOU!!!

My mother used this product on me as a child. As I got older, one day, I remembered this scalp conditioner. Now, my home never goes without this cream. You get used to the smell. I don't use their shampoo. It dries my hair out and doesn't do a great job getting the flakes out. (With my hair) I exfoliate with Dr. Bronner's soap and put the cream on my scalp. Once it's on (especially after a flare), my eyes roll to the back of my head. Lol. Feels soo good.

This was very relaxing (and affirming) to watch! You take such care with your hair (as we all should...it deserves it!) 1. I still have jars of Sulphur 8 in my possession (and a bottle of their shampoo). 2. If you like DIYs: I also recommend Sulphur powder in castor oil (a little goes a long way). I use it on my skin, where I sometimes get a fungal issue from my smartwatch and between my toes (TMI? hope not. The stuff works! lol). When the oil-mix is used up, I make a cream from the Sulphur residue by blending it with coconut oil, mango and shea butter, and sandalwood, cedar, and peppermint oil. I use it for the same thing (and occasionally use it on my hair/scalp and all over as a body butter). 3. Also, Green Beauty has a video about Sulphur that she posted recently with her DIY.

Be sure to eat 2 brazil nuts per day to fight dandruff. It is a scalp fungus overgrowth and the ample amount of selenium (an important mineral that most of us are deficient in) in brazil nuts kills the fungus. For a period of time in my life I was eating the deluxe nuts as a snack and didn't have dandruff. I hadn't had the connection until a few weeks ago after I had stopped the nuts and got dandruff again. I researched how to stop it and saw the mentioning of selenium sulfate which is in Selsun Blue. I recognized selenium as a mineral and learned that it's in Brazil Nuts in abundance. I'm back at it this time with the Nizoral shampoo and will just keep anti-fungal shampoo as my regular hair products. Next is the all-natural Kamedis brand for full body anti-fungal care.

If anyone else has seborrhoeic dermatitis, try a product that contains zinc pyrithione and/ or magnesium. I use a shampoo by cleversoap and it keeps my flare ups away pretty well. When my scalp is inflamed/ flaky I soak it with magnesium chloride oil/ brine overnight then wash in the morning. Other than that head and shoulders, nizoral and products containing sulfur are effective for me too, just not as rapidly.
@winternightsky69453 жыл бұрын
I have been trying for years not to use Sulfur 8 because it was in grease form and I'm too lazy to deal with grease😂. But i was curious if i added oil would it liquefy so that it would make it easy to apply. So i finally tried about 2 months ago and was surprised that it did liquefy with oil and i didn't have to heat it up. My flakes were gone and no itchiness for weeks and i notice my hair grew in 2 months. I hit a growth plateau but not anymore. However, no matter how many oils that smell good jojoba, avacado, lavender i mixed with it that smell is terrible when the hair is wet, its like an egg smell. It settles down when the hair is dry though. It's one ingredient im going to take out when this batch is gone because i think the rosemary may be contributing to the smell because it's been a problem with my other batches i made without Sulfur 8.
