Very cool scene. Have to say it was quite unexpected him getting killed here. Normally used to shows where the target catches on somethings up or walks in on attempted ambush/hit, They usually get away. In this case he suspected something was up, catches the plan in progress but even in his effort to make a run for it, still doesn't get very far and eats a bullet.

Most modern revolvers are double action meaning the trigger moves the hammer as the trigger is being pulled. You can pull the hammer back yourself for a lighter trigger pull and a more accurate shot but it'll fire everytime you pull the trigger regardless about whether the hammers back or not. Unless he was on some wild west style mid life crisis I reckon its just mildly lazy writing.

For people that say this storyline was rushed it really wasnt.. it was showing how far sully had gone at this point. It didnt matter if it was the IRA, mafia, CIA, BBC, soon as he mentioned tash they had to go. You think sully would let this go on? Gettin a bad deal and treated as his "boy"? He even said not to ever call him that again at the gym. It was also showing sully could take out anyone without remorse. Hiding in an old womans room at a old people home looking like the reaper, taking out one of their sons and nephew/grandson johnny, took out jamie in front of his family and stef whilst looking him in the eye, dont forget they snatched a baby in the OG and kidnapped his own cousin and held him at gun point with arthur shelby, chinged ra'nells father figure, he just gon let this slide and carry on? This show wasn't rushed and the opening scene at the very start showed it. When Sully saw the mess the Moroccan's had been left in that showed an even more dangerous group had entered the scene he knew it had to be dealt with quickly before the numbers started going out of his favor. The McGee family were no joke and had number back in Dublin that brought on serious future challenges the Summerhouse wouldn't want to have to deal with at all. When you have competition that doesn't care and will end you without hesitation to get to the top of the ranks there's only one option, eliminate the that competition to entirely try and halt a long term future problem, and too also send a message to anyone else out there who intends on doing the same. That message being don't come to our turf, don't play with out world because if you do this is the endgame. Yes this is how it works in real life if you cross the people running the town/community and they feel you're a threat to them and what they do. It was a perfect reflection of kill or be killed, hesitate and you die either way the choice will be made regardless.
