Just in case anyone else found the Dmin strumming pattern tricky, here's Justin's breakdown of it formatted as D=down U=Up, and x=click (down swipe): Fast half: [D D U X] Normal half: [U D U X] Together: [D D U X | U D U X] Repeat only on the 2nd, 4th, ect. run you can now start the fast half with an U instead of a D to make it flow better... Hope this helps

So I started lessons this past summer (2022) at age 69. I just started on this song a few days ago. It is so in my head! I can now manage lesson one and have nailed those barre chords. Thank you, Justin, so much. You are an incredible instructor. I am so excited to be able to play this one.

wow good stuff mate, most tutorials i see are just people fluffing around with which finger goes where and explaining it so damn slow that you just get lost, and dont even know where youre at in the riff. but i like how you do it and you constantly come back to playing it all together so we can see the progress of the riff

Can't say thanks enough for this tutorial. I'm a fairly good guitar player who plays by ear, can't read music or tabs. Loved this song since it's release but could never figure out the leads and fills accurately. Until I came across your Vids. Thanks so much. Now my classic rock band plays this song at all our gigs (three to four times a week), and the audience loves it!

Tabs are just a diagram of the six strings, the numbers are the frets, and there's usually a legend showing what symbols are used for hammer on, slide, etc. There's really nothing to it.

Of course Mark gets all the attention for his great lead playing on this, but David plays a key role with his rhythm work, as do the great rhythm section driving the song. It's a great example of four musicians working perfectly together.

Justin - yes, it was 3 years ago, but I'll remind you that it's a spectacular lesson. Couldn't have gotten this strum pattern without your help. My wife pointed me to this series when she saw me struggling. "I found this guy on YT who teaches it really well." When I saw, it was you, I was like, that's not just some random guy... that's Justin Sandercoe. Of course it's a great lesson. Wish I was able to make it to your Socal clinic with Marty.

hehehe... "What? Guitar is hard? Where are all the chicks and fame?" There are a lotta people with guitars sitting in their closets right next to all their other failed dreams of youth. Um... like me perhaps. But maybe this time I'll carry it through. I won't be famous or get the chicks or money, but maybe I can get good enough to play for the joy of it? If so, I'll be happy to throw a few bucks Justin's way. Excellent bunch of lessons and books and videos and all that.

Justin, great lesson on the rhythm guitar in this song. Once again you emphasize how important rhythm guitar and the feel of the music are one in the same. Playing rhythm is kind of a lost art these days and I appreciate your commitment to its importance. BTW, I think it's David Knopfler playing rhythm on this track, so it could be him playing with a pick while Mark does the lead work fingerstyle. Amazing tune, perfect playing by Mark.
