Such a sad little documentary showing a guy who couldn't have been more blatant about crying for help and drowning in his demons and everyone around him just letting him deteriorate. Glad he survived.

Man this is an interesting and kind of sad watch. Knowing what deryck was going thru, how he was handling things, and then seeing all the friends (who were potentially the ones he sang about in death of crows) partying with him was a lot to take in. Regarding the album itself, yeah it was all over the place but it honestly worked because it represented his unstable mental state.

@rhysm.5915
@rhysm.5915 Жыл бұрын
Coming from a recovering alcoholic, you don't get hangovers if you just start drinking as soon as you wake up. And by the time you eventually have to stop drinking, withdrawals and the DTs (or in Deryck's case, liver failure) will distract you from any hangover symptoms you experience. 😂 But seriously, alcohol is one of the worst things to be addicted to, kids should really be taught about this stuff before they get to the age where they start experimenting with booze.

Notice how so many people refer to this album as a record but this is the only album not on a vinyl? Fingers crossed for March 2021 SBM vinyl for the ten year anniversarry! Anyways, this is the one album I have put off listening to by sum 41 for literally years. I think it mostly had to do with the fact that Dave wasn't on it, and he's one of my favorite guitarists. But sum 41 has saved my life more than once, but a really big part of that was from 13 Voices. This is a solid album, it's really fucking good, and what followed the making of this album really sucked. I mean we're all glad Dyreck was able to pull through, but just the fact that you can tell who the fake people are in this video kind of breaks my heart, but it also lead to the songs on 13 Voices that I really related to when it came out. I'm not sure what Steveo is doing now, hopefully he's alrilght, but the rest of the band seems to be in great shape theese days. Tom and Zummo seem to really fit with the band and after seeing them live twice in 2019, you can definetly tell that there is chemistry. They're a family and I'm really glad that they enjoy making music and they're in a place where everything is genuine, including the crew and people who have helped make 13 voies and order in decline. After watching some interviews, it seems like Dyreck was a little bit scared because he wasn't sure how we (the fans) would react to what happened, but I really hope he knows we have his back. Long live the sums!

@@simonorwell if I were to compare deryck and his band and friends against my life at times, I'd be the "deryck" in the situation. For sure. Alcohol is a powerful drug, people have went to sleep on it and it's socially normalized and some don't consider the ramifications of a drug, the only drug done recreationally, that affects every organ system in the body. I never got to where he was as far as physical dependency but I did shit while blackout drunk that I could've easily died doing. Can you imagine? Dying in a blackout drunk and you'd never know it, youd just be dead. Forever. I think that same kinda soul sadness is why people like myself and deryck and countless others in the world try to escape that way. It's being able to finally control and manipulate that feeling of impending doom in the form of a drippy, oppressive sadness. Like you're already dead. Thats likely why he's done what he's done. I shoot meth multiple times a day. I'm on the longest run of my life right now. I can tell you this though, if I had been doing this with alcohol, I'd be dead. But we're all chasing the same shit. Or maybe it's more like we're running from it. I hope we all end up as ok as we want to believe we are. I'm sure, to some extent, deryck IS more lost now. He's probably glad he's not dead.. But like me, the real questions he was trying to find answers to, still elude him. Life is a bitch. But maybe there's more that we don't know about yet.

Im glad that Deryck is doing better and all that.... but sadly, It seems like the edge and heaviness of Sum 41 disappeared with Deryck getting sobered up. I mean, "Screaming Bloody Murder" was a freaking monster of a record! But "13 Voices" has no edge, no direction, nothing is really going on... it's just point boring man. There are a few songs which has some cool elements, but most of the material seems to have been written more for the sake of Deryck telling a story, than writing great music. Again, thank god Deryck survived and got better, but I must say, Sum 41 were better when he was an alcoholic -They had that "fuck you" attitude, but now Deryck just seems depressed all the time, like he isn't really happy. I hope im wrong though, and that their next album is masterpiece :)

Michael Holmgaard I think 13 voices is amazing and I love it a lot... Also im pretty sure their next album will be a little more like their bolder stuff now that Deryck has told everything about his recovery
