god. the fact that sumac always adored rhyolite. wanted to protect him. was one of the first to hear his soul song. seeing foxglove's despair and guilt as he doesn't even try to fight back against her because rhyolite was like a father to him and he accepts whatever punishment she gives. and she just snaps and her soul song is beautiful and terrible and vast and so powerful she's just. hollowed out by the end. tired. great video about one of my favorite litchikitti characters.

Love seeing more of the story, and I'm really surprised that Sumac didn't try to kill Foxglove straight away and even ended up soul singing. Her deep-rooted anguish is genuinely heartbreaking to see and I can't help but sympathize with her and hope that she can become better after everything that's happened.

Yet another masterpiece befalls us, a joyous day for us OTE/OTP lore enjoyers! To yet another musical banger, too! I’ve gone insane over the visual details of this in the discord enough already (you should join if you haven’t!), but I need to reiterate how wonderfully crafted every scene is (+ theory material!). I need to shortly mention how much I love Sumac’s portrayal here. Her emotions were never explored with as much intensity as they’re portrayed here, from her terror in childhood to her mixed and upset feelings during the Foxglove confrontation. We see things mostly from her perspective, that translates into how every character is portrayed; Every shot with Calabar in it reeks of the sheer anger and contempt she exudes, her face is partially covered by shadow and every single expression she gives in this video is one of profound, accepted bitterness. I feel like Sumac began to realise just how similarly bitter she’d become when Foxglove bowed down to her, not invalidating how she felt and, in a way, being sympathetic to her. He valued Rhyolite greatly as well and despite knowing he did the right thing, likely still felt intense guilt. That is the moment that broke Sumac. And her soul song was so intense ??? felt the need to interfere. Absolutely chilling. It’s one of the most beautiful and creative ways of depicting grief I’ve ever seen. Great work, Adam&Team!!

I watched this video with absolutely no clue what the story actually was so maybe you'll find it neat what a complete newcomer could extrapolate from this with no context at all! I thought Sumac grew up in a dwindling cat colony where cats from a larger colony occasionally came to retrieve like, a sacrifice, or maybe even to eat them because of a famine related to, you know, being in this barren fractured outer space world, especially since they all seemed so skinny. I thought Rhyolite's mom must have been one of them, and that she chose Rhyolite as the sacrifice. In trying to piece a story together I somehow didn't really register that Rhyolite was still alive and walked away with his mom. I thought it was just the bully cats leaving, and that what Sumac had watched was the sacrificial kitten being killed. When he started soul singing I interpreted it as like, the song and visual of his soul leaving his body because it was what happened when cats die traumatically (I thought maybe the cats demanding sacrifices wanted the soul energy or something too). So I thought Sumac had literally watched the life leave her friend as a kid and was obviously profoundly traumatized. She held the grudge against the other cat colony for years. I thought Foxglove must have been a member of the evil cat colony and Sumac was trying to enact revenge by killing them one by one starting with Foxglove. So she was hysterical and already crying as she intended to attack, but then Foxglove cowered and must have told her that they had no control of what had been done by their leaders, and Sumac had a sobbing meltdown because she realized that she couldn't kill Foxglove because it would be just murder, but then she had all this righteous fury and nowhere to put it. She was so overcome with emotions that she started screaming at Foxglove until it suddenly turned into the singing/screaming her soul out like her friend had done years ago, and that that wasn't supposed to be able to happen to someone without that person dying from it. Obviously Sumac didn't die so I thought she must have like, transcended and became half-dead half-alive, and that it was why her eyes changed and why she could see the ghost cat suddenly, too. Then she looked at Foxglove and realized none of her revenge was worth it, especially in the face of the power she just got/experienced, so she walked away from Foxglove while scowling in pity, dissatisfied and without her revenge but unable to do anything about it now. Then I figured the cat at the end wanted to abuse her powers for their own gain idk I didn't know any of their names (except Sumac's because it's in the title) until I dove into the comments and read about Rhyolite and Foxglove. I know the story now because that made me realize there was a whole ongoing series of music videos with these characters so I went and watched some. But that had been my initial interpretation after watching this video the first few times. This video is metal as hell and u should be proud of it. Your art style is so fun and the visuals get so psychedelic and cool. I'm sticking around to see what else u make cuz you're a phenomenal artist :)

i wonder if sumac saw the other side of the vortex? :0c because her soul singing was so intense, her eyes changed color like eryx (i believe is her name?) and upon looking at foxglove before leaving, foxglove would change to another cat (im completely unsure if its a cat we've seen before). so maybe she has that ability to see 2 worlds if her soul singing is intense enough and/or she can see the two worlds but its not as "disruptive" as eryx's ability? this is of course just speculation and im excited to see what future videos reveal!! :] absolutely fantastic work as usual!

I checked and I think the cat we see through Sumac's eyes could be Rhinestone (same face marking and same expression) though I can't be sure

I loved how beautiful that soul song moment was, but also after her eyes changed color, when she looked at Foxglove and her eyes reflected Rhinestone instead (at least out of everyone we already saw it looks like Rhinestone the most) and her paw flashed blue. Now on the wiki it says that "because she could not handle what she had to feel, she ran from her problems like she often did. This time, right out of her body." Does this mean she is/was/became one of the cats from Into The Unknown, maybe Blackberry, it's a stretch but with her fur flashing blue and the similar undereye markings of Blackberry, it doesn't seem impossible? We saw that Goathead and Calabar from Ode to Epilogue have some connection to Eryx and Cypress from Ode to Prologue, so maybe the same think is happening to Sumac. Anyways, I loved the video, can't wait for the next one

I noticed that Foxglove makes a very similar bowing/submissive pose when confronted by Sumac as Sumac's parent did when being yelled at by Calabar. I wonder if that might help explain why Sumac looks so conflicted during her confrontation with Foxglove - she's seeing herself in Calabar, someone that she absolutely hates.

Okay so after the relase of jack's obsession and whole lot of new info to the wiki pages I did a little digging to see if I can figure out any of the lore. Based on the past videos we can assume the cats from ode to prologue and epilogue are connected in some sort of way. When Sumac soul sings we see what looks like Rhinestone from into the unknown rapidly switch between Foxglove so we can assume that they're connected in some way. I was mostly checking the ode to prologue wiki for cats with blue eyes and landed on Indicolite's page, a blue eyed and blue furred (which Sumac briefly switches between after soul singing) cat from the cat colony. While it says she debuts in jack's obsession she's also noted to appear in ghost of utopia, which is this video. No other prologue cat (other than rhinestone) is noted to appear in this video. No idea what this could mean but it might mean Sumac and Indicolite are related in a way According to the wiki Rhinestone and Indicolite are half siblings which is just another interesting thing to note and might be why Sumac doesn't attack Foxglove Last interesting thing is the cat we see at the end of the video is Fullmoon, Mulberry's brother, and Indicolite mate(?) is named Newmoon. Purely speculating here as we haven't seen too much from either cat to know if they have any relation if any but thought that was a fun fact to point out. Anyways love the videos and all the tiny little details, can't wait for the next one!

not to mention, in "???"'s (the pitch black cat with the funky eyes) wiki page, it says that it told Sumac that her soul singing (caused by her desire to run away from every problem) made her literally run out of her body, and AFTER her soul singing, she gets these dark blue eyes with little diamonds in them. guess who also has these very dark blue eyes? INDICOLITE!! its a huge stretch but maybe since Sumac ran out of her body, maybe Indicolite took her place instead? idk i might be just rambling abt nothing but someone has to hear me out on it

I think I'm loosing it, I swear there was one more video for these characters. It was like, Foxglove and the kit (I think the name was Apple if I remember right), and Foxglove was essentially on the run from Sumac (I think it was Sumac, I don't remember). Foxglove thought he was safe and hidden somewhere with Apple, and was singing or something? Sumac found them, a fight broke out, Sumac killed Foxglove, and walked away, living Apple there to die. And ??? was just kinda standing there off to the side watching or something? I remember this cause it was the first thing I ever saw of these characters, and the first time seeing Litchi Kitti's art/videos... What is this alternate dimension I'm in... oop... This was a little over a year ago

There was like a whole chase sequence of them darting around and over the floating bits of land, Foxglove almost dropping the kit cause the jump was really wide. The end sequence was the kit calling(?) all whispy like over Foxglove's body That's why I'm like, 'brain, wtf are you on'. Idk man, my brain is in another dimension, lmfao.
