That pre-chorus section has a gnarly In Flames vibe to it. "When thy art is hate" segment. So fucking awesome. Combined with how Lonestar rips, makes this song something I'll keep coming back to despite it not having that old DH thrash to it.

@AlanAraujoMarujo10 жыл бұрын
Guitarist Mike Schleibaum gave it some context: "Along with a new rhythm section, we also chose a very different route for the album's production this time around. While we have worked with well known producers in the past (Brian McTernan, Devin Townsend, Fredrick Nordstrom), we chose a much younger and more local producer in Taylor Larson. He recently gained a lot of attention after his work with Periphery and after spending some time working with him, we knew he was the man for the job. Tasked with making the most sonically modern, melodic and diverse Darkest Hour album yet, Taylor looked the challenge right in the eyes. He uncompromising approach to pushing us as songwriters and musicians was unrivaled. It took a young heart with a fresh perspective to get this album moving in the right direction and Taylor was the man in the driver's seat."

@AssassinFrogg10 жыл бұрын
Darkest Hour never disappoints. They keep the sound fresh by slightly following what's popular in the metal scene, but not taking it so far so that it sounds generic or boring. It's always unique, and that's why they're one of my favorite bands. Not sure how I feel about Travis yet, I think Ryan would have added more double bass which I have to say was a major part of older DH.
@digital_veil10 жыл бұрын
I don't know about you, but I think the drumming towards the end really stood out. That said, I think Travis is doing a great job.
@manicdogfood10 жыл бұрын
The drumming style of the last few albums was so stale and predicatable though, I for one am so glad they got a new drummer. More groove, less straight double kick and double timed snare style beats. So rad.

i have been a massive fan of darkest since the hidden hands of a sadist nation album and in my opinion this song kicks fucking ass its powerful riffs and groove make you fucking head bang..... they are going to have awesome solos on this album as we just heard but you don't need to show of with melodic,fast drums or bass or whatever.... these guys have really stepped up and improved so fucking much also musically hearing a change from the band is awesome and i cant wait to hear this new album so just enjoy and listen :)

i agree with you a wiseman once said it like this . there is no such thing as true 100% originality, all ideas have to come from some kind of influence and be developed from there into something new. There's only whether you know where the influence has come from or not which effects how 'original' you perceive something as. Quote Liamengl

Its a good track but I expect a lot more on the other tracks on this album since dh has been a pretty technical band. Now that they are on Sumerian records im expecting them to utilize their technical playing and produce music truly unique to be on par with Sumerian bands like the faceless and veil of maya but overall this track is pretty good but I expect more from the remainder of the album since dh is capable of such lengths.
@charlieadf713910 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, the technical tone in this song has been lowered by a lot, but nonetheless I keep hitting replay to listen to the song. I find it weird though, but it's because I'm not accustomed to this. I hope the rest of the songs goes tech overdrive.
@brianportillo656810 жыл бұрын
Darkest Hour has never been technical. The faceless? Veil of Maya? They're melodic death metal or metalcore, I've never heard more than an inch of technicality
@spoonerluv10 жыл бұрын
Brian Portillo Because you could rip any solo from The Faceless no sweat, right? Both of those bands are extremely technical and their songs are very difficult to execute.
@kaisermorn10 жыл бұрын
Brian Portillo you sir must not have listened to the solos in songs like sound the surrender or the tides from previous darkest hour records. While the song structure itself isn't tech deathish the solos are pretty complex. And from what I remember the faceless are prog/technical death metal technicality exists in pretty much all of planetary duality. Veil of maya is technical deathcore/djent with prog as well. You get the technical playing in songs such as its not safe to swim today and the muscle memory timed breakdowns. Idk what your definition of technicality is but it exists greatly with the faceless and vom.

Djent IS a subgenre! Where have some of you been? It's not just a guitar tone - the song structures incorporate syncopated riffs, polyrhythms and polymeters. Listen to djent bands and you can hear that the songwriting and approach to rhythm is what makes it djent. Educate yourselves. A low-tuned guitar just chugging is not djent.
