This is the most important metal album of the modern era, and I don't feel that is up for debate. This album changed everything, for everybody in the genre. Production, how to record modern music, the guest spots, the moments on the album, I could go on all day with reasons why this is objectively the most important single modern metal album. The more I learn about production, mixing, arrangement, composition, etc. in metal, the more this album's importance is made even clearer.

This is still the best Periphery album. Much nostalgia. Much yes.
@dereksmith487210 жыл бұрын
Periphery has a little bit of everything for everyone to enjoy. Half the people arguing in the comments cant even play in instrument, your points therefore hold very little value. If you are a musican of any kind you would understand how things work for example: Spencers vocals be it his cleans or screams blend into the songs so well and they are fitting for what is being played in the songs.
@jimlahey653010 жыл бұрын
straight up man
@danielwood409710 жыл бұрын
Think saying people who don't play an instrument have an opinion of 'little value' is pretty risky! However I agree that as an instrumentalist there's probably more appreciation for what they're able to compose. Whether I would enjoy it as much if I didn't play the guitar, it's hard to tell. Playing along is fucking hard sometimes though!
@dereksmith487210 жыл бұрын
no i totally understand that. What i ment by that is that if someone who simply listens to music would have a more bias opinion toward any music compared to someone who plays an instrument or composes etc. A musician knows how certian things work and how much time to takes to fromulate a song where as a regualr listener can only compare things to others bands or people they know.
@MrVladalv10 жыл бұрын
***** They do. I play bass since 2003, and I like to listen to music I cannot play. Periphery, some Dream Theater songs, Meshuggah. By time music gets complicated the simple ear of a non-musician is getting bored. This band is cooler than I thought. The only thing I don't really enjoy is the growl in the songs, but I will get used to them ;)

They're way better with Spencer. He's, hands down, the best vocalist this band has had. Though, his uncleans do remind me of Nick Xourafas'.. (Former Structures frontman) p.s. I loved Nick when he was in Structures.

Without doubt Periphery's best album. Curious how it also has this very unique sound compared to their other work. The tracklisting, sound, lyrics and how the songs transition into each other so swiftly...everything about this album is perfection.
@adino203 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. This is peak periphery. I wish I knew music theory to figure out why this album is so much better than anything they put afterwards. Besides the clear ep, everything since has been consistently worse...
@opliko3 жыл бұрын
You probably just like the way it is mastered/arranged, they have similar sounding tracks on other albums as well. Follow Your Ghost on Hail Stan sounds like a track straight from Alpha/Omega, etc. They have tracks all over from any year

Periphery: they seem to have influence of Death (band), Dream Theater, Faith no more, Incubus, 30 seconds to mars, killswitch engage, And 80s/90s melodic hard rock (a.o.r), Alternative rock, Pop punk, electronic, clasical music, jazz and spanish music. Wow!!

I saw them live with Dead Letter Circus and Twelve Foot Ninja in October (no Born of Osiris because they're still not allowed in Canada). It was a great experience, even though I was at the very front and everyone behind me was pushing themselves closer to the stage, essentially making me a human pancake lol The price you pay for being front row centre. Totally worth it.
@Direksone10 жыл бұрын
Haha why are they not allowed in Canada?

Cam was caught with weed at the border a few years ago. Since then, the entire band can't come here.

Zin Skymerald The band CAN come here, just not Cam. Which is funny, because they could have played Canada and find someone else to play the drums on the Canadian dates.
@GaleSilverwind10 жыл бұрын
Kali Longpre Yeah, I was wondering whether they could get a live/session drummer to play with them instead. That would have been a better option than taking themselves off the bill for the Canadian dates.

I’m so silly I loved their first album and saw them tour for it, then have slept on Periphery since. Hearing tracks along the way but I wasn’t sold on the whole djent genre and Periphery were most unfortunately collateral to that. I already brought my ticket to see them 2 months ago and am only now going back through their albums. This album is already up there in my upper echelons, a complete masterpiece. I’m always one to listen to a new album or play a new game as soon as it’s out but I’m always happy and positively envious of newcomers about to experience something I’ve already enjoyed. Today I was that person that got to enjoy something so amazing for the first time that had been sat on for far too long, which in a slightly stint way, made it oh so much better !
