Hi everyone! This video is a bit different from my usual series, but I thought it might be nice for you to join me for an intimate look into one of my Suminagashi (Japanese marbling) sessions. I am currently working on some smaller pieces for an art gallery wall in my home so I am using a smaller basin than usual. You will also notice the music is a bit different - I decided to feature some lofi music that is in the style of what I typically listen to while I create. Enjoy!
Suminagashi (墨流し), often translated to "floating ink," is the ancient Japanese technique of marbling. For me, it is art therapy.
There is something so healing about lightly touching your brushes to the surface of the water and creating those entrancing ink rings. Any slight breath or movement and a new design will take shape. You can't control it. You can't replicate it. It just is. In turn, forcing you to just go with its flow. To live and create without certainty.
still in bloom, M
