"A little nautical" is the best way I've ever heard sloppy weather described. My old fishin' buddy used to say "rough as a cobb" when it got sporty out in the Gulf Of Mexico. Your fluke/flounder bite on some crazy colors. I always liked more natural colors in FL, but maybe that was a mistake. Most of mine came from natural bait and the biggest ate a whole ballyhoo 9 miles out in 45' of water on an artificial reef. If you want to catch flounder in FL try around artificial reefs in the cooler months, they can get thick at times. Yours up north are bigger on average but that's the best place to find numbers in the winter.

Any reason for limited trips on your aluminum boat fluking? Perhaps a throw back to before you were going on the big boats chasing ocean fluke? Or are these fluke not reachable in the smaller boat? Great content as always sir!

Hey John. Recently going out on the party boats has called for mimimum 8 oz lead. Sooooo what i do is I tie a Thundermist T swivel rated 50 lb in between my main line and rig. I still have a surgeons loop at the end of the rig to change out bucktails easier and the dropper loop 10-12" above that for the teaser. However, if I need to go heavier with the lead I simply attach a snap hook to the bottom of the T swivel, remove the bucktail at the end of the rig and replace it with another grub. Super easy and quick when you gotta go heavier to stay on the bottom. I never have to retie anything and I notice the T-swivels don't tangle near as much as the standard 3-way swivels.
@JohnSkinnerFishing Жыл бұрын
Why 8 ounces? What weight braid are you using? We fished 80-100 feet all day with 2-3 ounces today. Nothing thicker than 15# braid is the key.
@anthonygregorio2208 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I always use 15# but sometimes even with 6-8 oz it scopes out way before it reaches bottom

Hi John, I saw a grumman 5.0 just like yours with a 2005 90hp mercury outboard for sale in my area. Also in my area was an 87 fisher sv 18cc with the original 70hp Johnson. Both have only been used in fresh water use only. Do you have a preference or any any suggestions on what may be the better choice for similar long island sound trips like you make? I like the fact that the fisher has a all aluminum floor but I like the larger beam of the grumman. Thoughts?
@JohnSkinnerFishing Жыл бұрын
Wow! I had to travel a long way to get my Grumman. I know nothing about the Fisher, but I love the Grumman. It's very wide and deep for the length and is very stable. It does pound a little in waves.

By boat, a 7 foot medium action rod with a 2500 spinning reel and 10-15 lb braid. On land I like to use an 8 foot medium action rod for extra casting and more control. Bucktails in the 1/2 to 1 1/2 oz range.

Mr. Skinner, do you think vertical jigging while drifting would work in NE Florida fisheries? I don't think I've ever seen anyone using this technique in the St Johns.
