Too funny! I was just doing many of the things you spoke of-one was stopping to look at the garden until my husband wanted a ride out to chickens-we have electric golf cart for garden work and he wanted an Uber ride 😂. I was observing locations of plants and the beauty of all the color and textures. Thinking of how it will be different next year as things get bigger and as those giant volunteer sunflowers that are covering a statue reseed somewhere else. The glads forced my hand at cutting a bouquet yesterday as some were tipping, so I grabbed a few others-beautiful! I normally don’t do bouquets. Busy harvesting and preserving. Clearing out and replanting a few things for fall veg, but running out of growing season Z5a, WI. The plants were water logged all summer and now it dried up. What was sort of funny was I noticed the cherry shrubs had only 2 leaves!😮 I thought something ate them till today I investigated and seen the leaves fell off and realized I didn’t water enough. They are a bit out of the way and think I will move them to the orchard on drip. Which leads to another change to different irrigation system. It’s a bit tricky as I have two large gardens and some things are not getting enough water and better zoning is needed. Yes, looking at Changes! How to make gardening easier and not feel like I’m playing a game of Twister. Next year many volunteers will not be growing where they are and all paths will be cleared. And the tomatoes were the worst this year. If we have rain again like this year I think I may have to cover them and will use liquid fertilizer on them despite all the rain, they were stunted this year, but we got enough thankfully. As far as deadheading I do a little, but want to save seed from many so there’s that. Season is almost done and time to enjoy and review.

Great point, figure out what changes need to be made to make your gardening life easier next season, I did not emphasize that enough. I am doing the same. I was just wondering if I wanted to move the Bespoke Greenhouse as I miss having all my raised beds of veggies in that one spot and the greenhouse did not work out as well this year like it did last. My fruit tree sitting behind it is not doing well. Planted it before we tried the little greenhouse in that spot. I know my husband will roll his eyes when I suggest we move it but that is okay, I test things to see how they work and when they don't seem to do as well as I would like then I remove or move them. Ah well, trial and error are the name of the game in gardening!

I'm burnt out on lack of rain the entire summer so few peppers and so forth, voles and a sneaky gopher killing a few expensive plants, loud neighbors, crabgrass. Argh, ugh, oh. Thanks for sharing your burnt out and for your videos.

You are welcome. We had a lot of noise last summer from the construction behind us and it was so annoying, it really detracted from our enjoyment of the season in our garden so I know what you are talking about. The ground critters (voles and gophers) have really gotten out of hand the past few years. Makes you wonder where all their predators are.

I love your attitude! I am doing late afternoon gardening, one task at a time and feel it is mandatory to sit, relax and admire. My all time favorite is hearing the breeze go through the trees!

Funny you should say that, we were having lunch on our back deck and my husband and I said to each other how much we love hearing the wind in the trees. With the tall evergreens the wind at the tops is much stiffer than down at the base and the sound is so relaxing, rather like a lovely stream or brook flowing.

This! I know that feeling. I don't know your situation but that is why I really focused last year and this season on getting my drip irrigation set up. I need to get my pots on the deck set up now.

This is the video that I really needed today, thank you Pam. The heat I experienced this summer was not normal for my area, zone 5 in Nova Scotia. We were one of the hottest places in the world this year which was so hard to believe and my phlox really suffered this year, they were burnt to a crisp. Since the zones have changed I am supposed to be in a zone 6 but I know I am still a zone 5 because zone 6 plants will not survive the winter here. I am not on drip because we have a well and all the heat and lack of consistent rain watering the garden is not an option but I do have water barrels around the house collecting rain water that helps.

I hear you, we had unprecedented heat as well but maybe not as severe. Sometimes we need to know when to just accept what is happening and not fret and know that next year could be a completely different scenario and set our sights on that. Phlox will come back from the roots next season, usually, so bank on that. Yes zoning can be relative and what is on the maps is not always the best indicator of what will do well in our gardens. I preach that often, as you may know. I wish for you a lovely Fall and enjoy the sunshine if nothing else. I don't know what your winters are like but mine seem to drag on forever and I live for sunny days.

Oh Pam. It hurts to think you will slow down the videos soon. I’ve enjoyed this summer’s routine so much though I was wondering how you could manage cause I thought you HAD started your new job. I totally understand that you will not have so much time now. I will continue watching for your presence on KZbin. You give very good advice everyday. Thank you. ❤

I had passed on the job the last time after thinking I would do it, then it came back up and I thought to give it a go afterall. I will be able to do it on my terms and time tables so there is that but it will entail a lot of responsibilities. So we shall see how I can balance everything.

The spider mites have really gotten going now in my garden too. I don't usually like using the neem oil spray but one must do what one must to mitigate the damage. I also spray them off with the hose when I see them.

I would love to know if there are flowers that will withstand down to 20 degree weather and some frost. We have a cold February but the rest of the time it’s hot and cold until then with maybe some frost. I have gobs of flowers seeded for fall that will do ok if it cools a little but pansies are the only thing I know of that might ride out frost and cold. I really enjoy your teaching videos on seeding, propagating etc.
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse 26 күн бұрын
Do you mean bloom while it is 20 degrees? If so, then you are correct, I only know of the pasies and violas that may do that. Also primroses do well for me. They look sad during the super cold but perk right back up when you get the warm spells.

I have not found the tangerine geum anywher😅e. I was late in planting my cosmos and zinnias in growing beds with veg beds. They are just popping now so I am moving my cosmos up to my flower beds, I will be watching for pill bugs!!! I picked clearance plants today which included phlox that I am in love with and a pink gaura. I tried growing from seed during a winter sowing and total fail 😢. I am going to try taking some cuttings to propogate. While I am garden weary, I am learning about propagation. Also, reviewing lessons learned from my winter sowing 😊
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse 26 күн бұрын
My winter sowing did okay but getting them planted out in the garden was a fail. I just had too many irons in the fire and failed to get it done when I should have. So I am going to do more fall sowing directly in the garden and propagate what I have. Annies Annuals had the Totally Tangerine geum and I was going to order it but then thought I would rather go visit them and pick it up. Silly me, they are now sold out so I missed my opportunity. There is always next year.

@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse 26 күн бұрын
Ugh, that can be such an issue with more humid areas. For me, when I sow zinnias I will do it in succession. I can replace the ones that get the powdery mildew with the newer ones that have not succumbed. So far mine has stayed mildew free but that is not always the case.
