I love how she's the one teacher who's actually nice to Jonah, and knows how to deal with him. It really shows that treating kids with a bit of respect and understanding can actually make a difference, and it's so true to real life.

It’s true, when teachers are nice thats what makes most students like them and if they like them they will most likely respect them but not all kids/teens are like that so teachers do have to be a little strict at times otherwise students may ‘take advantage’ of how nice that teacher is.

Talking to children like Jonah as humans, not yelling at them like problems, is the best way! I taught a kid a lot like Jonah once, and he wanted attention so badly that negative attention would do. But giving him responsibility and trust and telling him from the heart how proud and happy i was when he succeeded was the way to go!
@edward6572 жыл бұрын
That’s so heartwarming to know that there are teachers like that. I had a similar situation (only I was the (domestically) neglected kid who would seek out any attention, positive or negative, in class, because it was the only part of my life where I would be responded to in earnest. The only difference was academia was still always my forte and passion despite the domestic conditions, so I would be seeking to answer questions and help my peers who fell behind just as often as I was being an asshole like Jonah, disturbing the class and playfully bullying other kids. The way the flow of class would momentarily pause while I got very positive or very negative feedback really made me feel alive and worth people’s attention in a way I could never get from my family (who never cared even when I brought back excellent grades). For as long as this continued I kept on being a fuckup/class-clown/(benign) bully, and as disruptive and dysfunctional as it was, it was really the only way I could have the energy to keep trying at life; as when you try and try and try (academically, in this case) but receive no feedback from anyone it can really bury you. I truely believe giving attention (or just feedback - any feedback, not necessarily overly positive or caring) to developing kids, and just letting them know they’re on the right track when they try hard and get results (regardless of the size or importance), is one of, if not the most essential thing to ensuring healthy development. To see what the opposite behaviour yields, you can see primate studies where the young ones are given a fake mother that doesn’t respond to them, and it makes them desperate for a response of any kind, and makes them go completely socially withdrawn and mostly brain-dead when it comes to higher order thinking..

Hi Chris ( if you ever read this) its a shame why this show was cancelled because its obvious what you were trying to convey. That people who don't understand others, will ultimately show discrimination. A bit like holding up a mirror, to show just how discriminatory people be can at their most natural state. This teacher showed compassion and humanity, because she understood these kids, and so therefore, didn't discriminate them or judge them. She didn't lose her temper or get upset. I really like that. It saw a lot of beauty in scenes like this one.

However good Chris Lilley was, the supporting actors were brilliant. I was convinced Jan Palmer (here) had to be a teacher in real life. Same with Miss Wheatley (English) and Doug Peterson (Social Officer). Of course, the best was the School Principal Mrs Murray. But then she actually was a school principal. Casting director, take a bow.

As a 35 year old man now coming from an all boys school in this exact scenario, I wasn't Special Ed but I was forced to be there for misbehaving. As well as specialised teaching, it's prison class where you end up if you're too difficult for other teachers to handle. The only way out is to stop mucking around. There are genuinely kids in there that do need help, I became big homie to a couple of them. People knew not to bully them because they were with me. That and there's a whole lot more politics that can happen at all boys schools - I understand SHH is co-ed just referring to this scene. Thanks Chris!
