The nurses made a good point about having the ability to test blood sugar, which is easy. Low blood sugar can cause coma and seizures in diabetics, it would useful even to be able to rule that out.

100% I feel like lifeguards on the beach should have more medical equipment like a blood sugar tester and narcan in case of situations like this! But if the person was diabetic I would assume they would have a blood sugar tester on them but I’m not diabetic so I could be wrong

I'm surprised the nurses suggested that tbh a diabetic hypo is a much more violent energetic fit than this girl was. It would be an easy thing for them to have mind as I'm sure they encounter many diabetics feeling unwell when doing such exhausting exercise. I know I'd be wearing my medicalert necklace.

The only problem I've come across a few times personally, is if nurses check your vital signs as being ok-ish, then they just walk away n tell you to sleep it off. That hasn't been helpful when I've had high and low Thyroid which can be serious and they treat you like a nuisance druggie, even though I'm absolutely nothing of the kind.

I would say Americans only make up a small percentage of Australian tourists due to the tyranny of distance. Most come from Asia and also Europe (backpackers and a lot of faily members visiting UK expats). I would also say a lot of Americans have the opportunity to swim in the ocean in comparison with populations from some other parts of the world too.

Why do people go in the water without knowing how to swim? I could understand going in a small lake without waves and current but the ocean ! Everyone has a right to go in the ocean but it could be like pools that don't allow non-swimmers into the deeper pools for their own safety. Freedom vs security is a hard balance 🤷🏻‍♂

People swim fully clothed in Burma too, with theravada Buddhism I think? Questions… Why do they go shirtless during rescues? I’m assuming so people have nothing extra to grab on to and potentially pull them under. Is it possible to swim out of a rip? In Mexico I was taugh how but after watching this I’m convinced it’s not possible. Or are most of these people just very inexperienced with rough beaches / swimming msg just lack the knowledge. It would almost be beneficial to offer some sort of brief from the lifeguards before going for a swim.

I’ve been at this beach a few times and the current is so strong, I wouldn’t go more than waist deep. I’m an American, but my sister lives in Sydney.

If your religion prevents you from taking clothes off for even swimming, don't go swimming at all. Geez no common sense.

I never thought about the issue of maintaining modesty for your faith while trying to avoid getting waterlogged and dragged out to sea. Thats scary!

Heh. If there's "always trouble on the beach," then that kid should probably stay off the beach and stop causing trouble.

Is there a lot of casualties at this beach? Considering how much life saving they do I can't imagine how their shift could "end"

If she's a lifeguard she should know that suit is not something you wear swimming. 🙄

When you get pulled back from the waves. You're supposed to let the waves take you to the calmer part back of the waves, then swim back at a sideways angle and the the waves will push you instead of pull

There must be some insane tides because many of the rescues look like they are in water where people are able to touch and doesn’t look like it’s far from the shore. I am ignorant when it comes to the conditions of the water on Bondi (Since I haven’t been to that part of the world and I live in Minnesota so we don’t have any oceans, just lakes which are much different)

sandbanks make it look closer than you would think... I've been there a lot and it is shallow for about 2 metres then it drops to neck deep for 3 metres then back to waist deep for a while and then down and so on... for people who aren't used to sandbanks it's really hard. Imagine swimming and being able to touch the floor and then a rip pulls you out and the whole floor shifts from under you. Also statically if you are panicking in water, once your head gets submerged your chances of drowning/inhaling water go up a crazy percent.

@@xanthehart7142 That doesn’t sound fun that sounds terrifying LOL. I live in MN so we only have lakes and rivers. Anytime I went on vacation somewhere that had an ocean I went about waist deep!
