It’s a hard job but depending on who you work with it’s not too bad apart from when the kitchen closes that is the worst part

My first job I’ve ever had and love it!! Luckily my family is close friends with the family who own the pub I’m in. Don’t be fooled by this though. It does hurt your back sometimes and can get stressed out... depending on when food finishes, you probably won’t get them plates until an hour later and it is long hours... But it is fun and the staff do make it better... it’s easy to understand everything though... I got used to the kitchen in the first week of starting.

I’ve been a pot wash for a couple months now and along with other comments I can agree that it is a hard job especially the first few times you are there. Getting too know where everything goes. All the different types of plates, Bowles etc. Different types of pots and pans. You have to work v fast especially when busy and it helps too keep your work area tidy. but all round is a ok and can be fun if your working with a good team of chefs

Do not be fooled by this video it's a complete misrepresentation of pot washing. It's long hours on your feet in hot conditions and stressful environment for little pay. It's not a walk in the park office job. Only true grafters and hard workers can do a job like this, trust me I speak form experience

I used to be a pot washer and now I'm moving on to be a secondary chef and I can tell you that pot washing is seriously underappreciated and people don't realise how demanding it is.

So I just finished my first pot washing shift... I’m knackered 😂 5 hours on my feet washing dishes, drying them and putting everything back where it goes as quick as possible before I’m brought another load of dishes. Half way through doing a load the chef will shout me to wash the pan as quick as possible and bring it back. My feet and back hurt. I was even asked to take off my apron and come into the restaurant to sing happy birthday 😂😂

Try doing it for an entire hospital and being the only person in the potwash for 4 months. Summer 2001, ah the memories. One of my last days was the day of 9/11. You know when people say - where when you when this happened? Up to my ears in industrial sized scrambled egg pots, i remember it vividly!!!!

I’m the only dishwasher at my restaurant ( the only one working the shift) and on weekends it’s fucking crazy cause they open at 8 but my shift don’t start till 10 and I get there 2 hours worth of pos/pans and plates and cups stacked high. I’ve started to go early tho(more hours )

This video was somewhat entertaining, but as I do this job I can tell you that there's a great deal more to it than that! Thankfully the people I work with are nice and make the job a lot more bearable, but it is tough when it gets busy and there's lots to do.

+Fury King Long 7-9 hour shifts with literally no breaks as you cant get time to get one, on your feet non-stop in horribly hot conditions, you will get covered in water and food and smell, you will hurt all over after a shift, incompetent front of house that don't scrape plates properly or know how to stack, your hands will be wrecked, peeling and sore, nobody shows your respect and it's just simply not worth the money.
@louise7168
@louise7168 7 жыл бұрын
Mr Draven depends on where you work, you can get shorter shifts that still pay shit but it's money and a good starter job. You do make a good point about the conditions though

I do this as a part time job and I hate it SO much! Unfortunately, my parents really like the place I work at therefore for me to leave is impossible. Also if I leave I’m living on hardly anything which I also somehow have to pay for driving lessons with. Tip: do NOT do this job

I’ve quit my stressful office job to go back to my teenage years as a pot wash in a Toby Carvery. Apparently having 350 people come through the door for lunch is “manic” and “chaotic” for the kitchen staff and FoH. But it didn’t phase me. What annoyed me is having a non-English person come tell me what to do half way through my shift and cause a lot of plates to be stacked and taken out filthy. I know they were trying to help but I am the pot washer now and I know what I’m doing. I’m annoyed because I got told off for the dirty plates they put through and stacked, which are shown in front of customers when they are served… if you see plates like that you’re going to think all of them are not washed… When I applied for the job I said I wanted to specifically wanted the post wash job.

if you knew what you were doing from your past, "cause a lot of plates to be stacked and taken out filthy" wouldnt happen. and you would be on top of that easily

Cool Video. just after 35 minutes you will feel aches in back bone and you have to keep changing standing posture so back support pads , knee support and insoles in shoes will really help. After 2 or 3 months you will be better as back will get stronger but not in all the cases. Speed and shouting from the kitchen team will have an impact. I mean better than doing nothing but if you have enough money to last 1 or 2 months , don't attempt pot washing. Most kitchens get in to a state of shambles when it is busy , so organized kitchens will change their state to disorganized kitchens in most cases. That is where a person will know that they can take the challenge or not .

When I worked in a restaurant washing the pots I said to the chef once (who was the main guy) that I was just as important as he was because , ok he might be able to cook the food but he needs clean plates to put them on every restaurant I've worked in over my lifetime has only ever had one pot washer they should have 2 on the busy time , if anything if they were busy they used to get more waiters in to help out And cooking the food so why not somebody to help the pot washer because after all if they were busy he had more pots to wash up but they forget about that one but there soon complain when you are behind and there's a load of pots need clearing and washing and drying and not forgetting the cutlery 🍴
