Summer kick-off in the garden this Memorial Day weekend! Gorgeous flowers and lots of Lilies in My Carolina Garden are part of the fun! I had a bunch of beach balls floating around my pool as the tour began, and those colors made it even more fun!
Daylilies, Canna Lilies, Coneflowers, hardy banana trees, tropical plants and more are some of today's features. I also caught a lizard eating a Japanese beetle! I love Spring and Summer gardens SO MUCH! Thank you for joining in the fun by watching this garden tour. I hope everyone is having an amazing gardening season so far!

Sadly, my established hydrangea only has one bloom so far and the other are young at just a year old. Do you add anything to your soil to get that beautiful blue color?

Thank you so much for your message! I honestly don't do anything special with the hydrangea. I wish I had a better answer for you. I have had good success propagating the big hydrangea by the "bury a stem" method, and then moving the new plant to a different part of the yard once it establishes a bit. That part is something I'm proud of. ☺ Hope you had a great weekend!

I believe the variegated canna is the Tropicana one

It's definitely possible! That's one of the options that pops us in a search, and I know it's not a rare or exotic one, so that fits.

You have many diverse things going on in your garden it’s so cool. The bananas you are growing are those Musa Bajoo? If so are you saying you just cut them several feet from ground without any protection and they came back, that is amazing

Does your Bougainvillea come back each year? I have some plants, that are usually annuals, that come back each year.

Hi there. If I kept the Bougainvillea outdoors over the winter, I don't think it would come back. But I overwintered mine in the greenhouse where it bloomed during that time, and didn't skip a beat getting back into the landscape at the start of Spring. I do have things I buy that say annual that come back for me also. ☺ What a treat.

My calla lily blooms always end up flopping! What am I doing wrong? I just started growing them last year, but they’ve flopped again this year!! They start off nice, but then they flop after awhile! 😮

Hi there! I just want to confirm you meant to say Canna lilies and not Calla? 😊

@@mycarolinagardenno, I did mean to say calla lilies. The bloom stalks end up flopping over. It could be that it’s just the way the blooms are spent. They are usually fine for a few weeks, then they bend over. I’m in SC….zone 8b

@Provysjourney oh OK, glad I asked. I've been growing Cannas for years but this is my first time with callas, so unfortunately I can't offer any thoughts on them. Sorry about that! 💚
