My Top 250 Games list for 2024 won't be finalized until at least October, but I can offer some projections on how many crossovers I will have with the three of you. As it stands right now, I will have 25 crossovers with Joey, 21 crossovers with Camilla, and 36 crossovers with Chris. It's a great game, but I don't think there's enough demand for a reprint. There was obviously more money in releasing something similar (but not quite as good) with Cthulhu: Death May Die. Cooperative just sells better than 1-vs-many. For the most part it's either picking up the game secondhand or hoping CMON make a spiritual successor.

I bought it (and a couple expansions) enjoyed it and eventually sold it, then I got the app years later, played the base game (as expansions are way overpriced in the app) and played it 300+ times, after playing the app I have no reason to own the game again, but always happy to play it, its a great game.

The Spirit Island board makes it look like a 20 year old game that is on the brink of receiving a second edition with an actual modern, colorful board and whatnot. Plus, from how complex people say it is, it also looks like it could benefit from the streamlining that games often receive in second editions.

The rules complexity isn't that high, especially before you add expansions. It's more complexity due to the gameplay depth. The game has a large amount of variability and a lot of decision space. Imagine Pandemic except everyone is actually thinking out their turns simultaneously. It's also far less fiddly than something like Gloomhaven (even Jaws of the Lion). The game even provides on rails upgrade paths for the simpler spirits. As @yogibbear indicated, "People are stupid though." As far as the board, the simplicity makes it readable which makes it more accessible. But, if you want something more thematic, then just flip the boards over.
