Hello Lindsay! Im currently a season ticket holder at Farmoor, and it’s a real pleasure to see you fishing at my stomping ground. The fish are great condition and taste fantastic. I fish f1 bank quite frequently and have caught a great number of the gorgeous browns that reside here recently. I sincerely hope we cross paths here in the future as I thoroughly enjoy watching your channel. It would be great to cast a line and swap stories. All the best, and tight lines. James.

@@lindsayiflyfish I’m really glad you think so, Farmoor can seem like a daunting water to fish due to the lack of features. But all you have to do is find the depth the fish are at and you can have fantastic success, just as you’ve demonstrated. And thank you so much for your reply 😎

I’m improving slowly but surely just trying to get use to casting with a 9ft leader ! Everyone tells to me to try and 12ft leader for deeper fish but I’m not sure I can control this on a 9.6ft 8 weight rod Cheers Dave Lloyd

Dave if you are fishing just one fly you wont even notice the difference by adding three feet to your cast.

Choosing the correct density of line to get to and keep in the feeding zone is the first half of the puzzle. Be it floating, sink tip, fast glass, DI 3, 5, 7, or 8. Then to present the fly at that depth what length and density on that sink tip? Type of DI sinker profile? Standard profile, sweep, or dual as in the comp lines, 3/5tip 5/7 7/8 that make a major difference to the action of that fly or team of flys, and totally change how whatever retrieve or combination of retrieves effect the fly in that feeding zone. That alone can half or double the number of takes. As for Upavon. One the top companies in the balance of range, innovation, quality, and customer service. Along with Semperfli. FNF, and Hanak. When you need that step up in quality at a good price. Yes we all have our favourite shops. Online they are the best of the bunch.

As I mention in the video, I thought I’d started on the wrong line but actually I just hadn’t given it the chance to work.

Do you not get a bit hesitant to fish catch and release on these sort of days? Dragging the fish up from water sitting at 10-12 degrees to the top which can be sitting at 20+ in the summer can often cause shock to the fish coupled with the exhaustion of the fight can pretty much kill the fish. Scotland hasn't been so bad this year due to the recent spout of rain and weather dipping back below 20 but England has been rattled by the heat.

The heat difference is not as big as you would think and the fish need to be in hotter or colder water for a significant period of time for its core temperature to change. The best thing you can do for any fish is play it hard and return it as soon as it’s ready. At 20-30ft neither temp or pressure varies so much that it would affect the fish, if it did then it’s the responsibility of the fisheries to close.

I agree with what Ben has already written and as you saw in the video these fish went back strong. If they were struggling personally I would have killed them, always folks after trout round my door. At the end of the day thats why they are stocked in the first place.
