Join me for a day on Draycote water where changing weather means you have to change tactics in order to be in with a chance. Fly fishing is challenging at the best of times but when the weather joins in to ruin your fishing plans you have to get inventive. I go from the top of the water to fast sinkers and big lures. Not all tactics are met with success but just sometime it can. be the difference between getting an opportunity or not.

I really appreciate the explanation of WHY a certain fly or approach is taken. Why a subtle change caught fish. E.g. CDC buzzer versus top hat buzzer Keep up the great work Lindsay 👍

I really enjoyed this Lindsay. Filled with really useful tips, of which to a lot of us is routine. But for so many helpful tips. Such as keeping contact with the fly as it sinks. A really well balanced video. And I totally understand how much work you have put in to get the shots you have. Then to get home and start sorting all the footage ready for edit. At times we wonder is it worth it. But when I watch this. I say YES. Great work Lindsay. Take care mate. Shaun.

Thanks Shaun, you know first hand all the things that can go wrong and they usually do. If we can encourage a few to try the sport it is worth while.

Hi Lindsay great video as ever, I may have missed it but how far from the tip of the fly line is the hang marker? Keep up the good work!

I have mine at 15' as it works for me other anglers sometimes mark at 20'.

Thanks Lindsay, another good video! I'm curious what it is you don't like about the combination of sun and wind? In theory the broken surface should oxygenate the top layer of water more and also give fish cover to come up higher in the water column (depending on the water temperature of course). I've had some success here in Oz hitting edges that are exposed to the wind, particularly if there's some waves stirring up the edge, creating a mud line of dirtier water and presumably dislodging some food from the bank. I guess your experience in those conditions has been different though?

I mostly fish for trout, they have no eyelids and are not keen on the Sun. It sends them deeper if you have wind as well it is difficult to get your fly line down when fishing from a drifting boat. Hope that makes sense.

@@lindsayiflyfish Thanks mate, yes I'm talking about trout. I fish the FFA loch style comps over here, it's mainly rainbows and browns though we do have some tigers and brookies and a few salmon in some lakes. Interestingly, I've seen plenty of trout cruising in shallow water in bright conditions in our lakes (check out the 2nd most recent video I posted from one of our lakes with big trout cruising visibly in the shallows in bright sun). I wonder what would account for the differences in behaviour between the UK and here? Perhaps our trout see more sun and are used to it? Yes I know what you mean about getting to depth in the wind, harder to keep good contact too when the boat is drifting faster. But I've generally found over here a bit of wind fishes better than calm conditions, and I often fish higher in the column when it's windy....

The Red Devil has all the best features and benefits of. Cormorant. Skinny buzzer. D Bach. They work as per original. Black body. Olive. Orange. Even using a fluorescent floss. Red. Green. Orange. Yellow. Or pink. Also as a phantom with a Mylar body. The use of midge or sink tip lines are an often overlooked saviour on many trips. If a non competition angler has not tried one yet I suggest they get a taste by using a sinking tip braid leader on either a floating or slow glass line. A couple of trips will have most of them heading out to buy or order one.

Tip lines are very popular but there are many different profiles to choose from might be a good topic for a future video.
