Fun fact: My Great- Great Grandfather was an artisan craftsman at The Breakers. I lived in Canada ( my family is from Pennsylvania) and had no knowledge of this fact until AFTER I returned home from a trip to Boston. While in Boston, I saw a pamphlet on the Breakers and basicly forced our family to go out of our way to see it. One of the most pleasant surprises of my life was to find out that my Grandfather's Grandfather had a literal hand in creating that stunning masterpiece!

My favorite “special touch” happened at a luxurious resort. They did several things during the turn down service, but my favorite part was that they placed a small booklet, measuring approximately 5“ x 4“, that contained probably 50 pages of various bedtime stories for adults organized by different genres and themes. Each story was designed to be read to completion before going to sleep because they were short, about 6 pages long each. I thought that was an impressively creative and thoughtful gesture! And during my stay, I was able to read every story in the booklet. They were all wonderful!

20 years ago, or so, my mother and I did a tour of Newport and had an amazing time. Mrs. Astor's Beachwood was a house museum that had actors playing members of the Astor family and staff who would show you around the house. You had to play the game with them that you were party guests coming the next evening but wanted to see the house after it's renovations after a fire. It was a great time, I loved it. Sad that now it's a private residence and no longer a museum.

I grew up on Cape Ann so there is lots of old homes and mansions, even castles I have always loved to roam around in. My primary school was in one of them, so for 8 years it was like home. My mom, who would be 105 years old was a fashionesta in her day and an expert seamstress. It's fun to see you 'wear her clothes' and accessories, and you look very similar in many ways. Your little swimming sea creatures are horseshoe crabs-an ancient and incredibly successful evolutionary design, 445 million years virtually unchanged! They pre-date dinosaurs, mammals, birds...just about animal group except fish and insects. They are literally blue blooded (copper instead of iron in their blood), and their blood has such a wonderful ability to detect the presence of toxins, it's harvested from the crabs (not all of it, the crabs are intended to survive) and used to increase safety of medical procedures and medicines.

Ooh, vintage clobber! As a girl in my late teens, I wore many of my mum's old Laura Ashley originals, and many of her '70s numbers. Hard to get more formal vintage clothes to fit well as you expand a bit with age, as the people, even 50 years ago, seemed to be built on a different scale to we gen X-ers! You found some beautiful pieces there. Some stunning, elaborately built old places you stayed in and visited. Victorian and Edwardian architecture was as good as it got, IMO.
