You can pick up a simple slip to wear under the dress. Thats usually how those type of vintage items were worn in their hay day.
@SeiichirouUta3 жыл бұрын
Thanks to the modern fabrics this is even easier today. If you wear a lot of dresses get a white + a black underdress and one in your own skin tone and you're good to go. Also your dresses will last much longer.
@_captainmagic3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can get slips in either top only, bottom only, or a full underdress slip. If you get a petticoat, get a quality one; lots of the cheap ones you find on Amazon or AliExpress are made of cheap mesh fabric and are super itchy.
@Mezzo773 жыл бұрын
Yep - in the 80s (when the yellows dress was made) women still regularly wore slips, under dresses or skirts. A full slip will definitely deal with the sheerness, either nude to just blend in or white if you want a bit of contrast to show. You should be able to find slips at thrift stores too!

Plus it protects the dress so you have to wash it less often!

When that dress was made everyone typically wore slips under their dresses, it’s basically a thin white silky dress that goes under the dress, you can also get a separate skirt or shirt slip though, it kinda looks like a nightgown

You can still buy a slip at most stores. I honestly can’t believe people don’t know about them they’re not some rare old fashioned thing.

Thank you, yes! When I was a little girl, and I was born in 1987 so it's not like I'm a granny, we often wore white tanks and skirt slips under our nice Sunday and holiday dresses and skirts. I'm shocked when people don't seem to know what a slip is or when they need one. Your dress is sheer? Wear a slip! Need to protect the fabric from sweat or friction from your skin? Wear a slip! Fabric a bit rough or have on a coarse petticoat? Slip has you protected!
@nini12342003 жыл бұрын
I know about slips. I was born in 1990. Slip dresses are also popular these days so I'm surprised Alex didn't think about wearing a slip under the dress.
@qienna66773 жыл бұрын
Yeah, slips are still a thing, but mostly bought by people who remember them. I think lining dresses etc took over to replace slips. If you look up Sage Lilleyman, she dresses vintage and has shown how the underwear etc worked back then.

blue is notoriously hard to get out of your hair, i recommend trying to counter it with pink, maybe a shade that leans towards orange a little bit! that's how i got the remains of blue out of my hair, the result leaned towards purple but once that faded there was no more blue in my hair
@cadycastle99573 жыл бұрын
I just commented the same thing. You can't use purple shampoo or toner to get out blue because they are both on the same side of the color wheel, she needs to add a orange or yellow color to cancel out the blue and get to a blonde color she was going for.

The yellow dress reminds me of a dress that a real life modern day Belle would wear. It’s so beautiful on you Alex, you’re helping me with learning to love myself and inspiring me to actually wear clothes that are flattering on me. My body dysmorphia has turned my entire closet and dresser into just sweatpants and extremely large shirts so that I don’t have to worry about people seeing any kind of detail about my body. Seeing Alex encouraging people to wear what they want and that they’re beautiful no matter what really really helps me. I actually wore a form fitting dress the other day because my mom bought it for me for Christmas and had it shipped to my house. I didn’t have an anxiety attack about things that are tight on me because I had Alex playing in the background so her positivity was keeping me from picking myself apart in the mirror. Thank you Alex, you have helped me more than you know. Quarantine for me being positive for COVID has been rough and I want it to be over but you helped me wear a dress I’ve been wanting to own for three years now. Thank you

Alex, to get out the blue you need to use a toner or colour with an orange tone to it (if you look at the colour wheel, blue is opposite of orange. In hair colouring, the colours opposite each other on the colour wheel cancels out each other. Remember that different colours can have different undertones to them and would thus benefit from a slightly different toner: A purple-y blue would need a yellow-orange tone to cancel it out, whereas a greenish blue would need a reddish orange, for example.). You can add a little hair dye to your conditioner to create your own toner. Most blonde toners have a blue or purple base as the aim usually is to make the blonde less brassy (so canceling out the orange or yellow tones). I would love to see you in a golden or strawberry blonde - I think that would really suit your complexion, and it would be much easier to maintain with eventual roots.

Fully agree with other comments, vintage clothing requires vintage undergarments. Or at least a vintage approach. Luckily slips, full and half are fairly inexpensive and really polish off vintage outfits. You may have noticed that alongside being sheer many vintage fabrics aren’t exactly the softest mostly because they aren’t meant to be worn directly against the skin. If you have a full wool skirt it is assumed that you will be wearing a slip with it if it’s unlined. Additionally you can look into vintage bras as they did provide a very different shape depending on the era. This is important because if the clothing you are is designed to be worn with a bullet bra and you are wearing a modern bra it will look odd. Same if you tried to wear a vintage bra under modern clothing. I do think it would be worthwhile to learn a little bit about different style eras to help figure out what undergarments you should wear. My big hint it to look at the tags/labels a lot of times the font/brand gives it away (especially because you see call backs from other eras also i.e. 80’s does 40’s)
