That looks amazing. Dad of the year! Thanks for the explanations. So many KZbin videos just blaze through but you pointed out some really useful stuff.

Hi Jay, I've now watched this video countless times as I endlessly procrastinate finishing my deck bench project, and something is vexing me. Around 4:52 you explain the compound mitre cut needed for joining corner backrests. This makes sense in theory. But I CANNOT for the life of me figure out whether a) just one side of the join needs that cut or b) if both sides need it, with one 'flipped.' I cannot get b) to work at ALL not matter how I flip boards or move the 12 degree cut to the other side. And my mitre saw only bends to 45 degrees in one direction (left), which it looks like yours does as well. My question is - at 4:52 (and in the bracket instructions) it seems like it's supposed to be a), but at around 5:30 it looks like b)? As in, maybe the left side backrest boards are NOT cut with the same compound cut?

Yes, when the two backrest boards comes together at the corner it's a compound cut, but later on around 5:35 for the "arm rests" because the smaller end pieces are NOT "meeting a corner" but are instead just "butted" up against the backrest boards, they only need a 12.5 degree angle. You can see the arm rests installed at 6:09
