Summit Rock Cut & IR&HB RR Ore Dock remains in Huron Bay!

February 29 in Summit and the rock cut. Plenty of snow left! March 7 -a beautiful day in Huron Bay. The water level was incredibly low so I took the opportunity to wade out to the ore dock remains. Looking forward to exploring the freight dock and seeing what the sand is covering up! When the weather warms up we will be out there with shovels and metal detectors to see what is buried from the sand flowing into the Bay from the Slate River and the Ravine River! I just "feel" like there will be a big discovery on the freight dock!

Our snow in Rhinelander is long gone, now everyone is worried about the fire danger. I'm hoping this year isn't like '88, the worst drought in Wisconsin history. Cool video, liked it a lot. Thanks Nancy!

we were just in the mountaIns-wet but hardly any snow! trails will be very muddy with temps in the 60's the next couple of days!

Thank you, Nancy, for this video of the Canadian National's L'Anse Local coming up the L'Anse Hill to Summit. I enjoyed watching the engine slowly come into view as it came up the hill from just seeing the very top of the engine appearing above the rails until the whole train was in view and in our faces. It was nice to see a former Chicago & North Western green colored covered hopper car bring up the rear of the train. Most of the green colored CNW covered hopper cars that I see in videos these days have new reporting marks and painted out CNW logos. Occasionally one of these green covered hopper cars still appears with CNW reporting marks. Your trip to Huron Bay with a look at the former ore and freight dock locations looks like a foretaste of a coming video or two of exploitation in this area. I look forward to a video or two of what you find at the ore and freight docks in Huron Bay.

Nice video, Nancy! Can't believe how mild it is there. If I didn't see the little bits of ice there, I'd swear it was spring. Also I loved that CNW green hopper on the end of the train. That was cool! 🚂🚃🚃🚃

Hi Nancy, That was a very interesting video. I love to look into clear water and see a world that I cannot be part of. Something very intriguing to me about it. I've snorkeled it in late August after a warm spell and it is just breath taking. . I see you are low on snowpack, which means less runoff. At the place my family has in Big Bay sometimes the runoff is so viscous it cuts deep grooves into our driveway and makes a lake under our cabin. I've seen marks on the trees where the highwater level was 4 feet from the ground. Always a great getaway watching your videos Nancy. Thank you. ben/ just a troll living under the bridge Eh.

Apparently you had another one of those small snowfalls just to freshen things up. No ice where you were walking and surely a bad sign for the water turnover and cleansing and very possibly the fish. Always glad to see traces of the past and that one of course it's very strange because it was never used. That is very peculiar to not have a scale in Llanse especially when you think of traffic off the Ford RR and Celotex plus some places had to be loading logs. While of course Milwaukee was larger the Milwaukee Road had at least five in the city and I'm sure more than that at one time

Very nice video, thank you, Nancy. Wow, you got a scissor phone! I haven't seen one of those since I was very young, visiting my father's workplace, the train depot in West Branch Michigan in 1952.

Durand is a good place to visit down state. I have history due to my dad working in the depot as a train dispatcher for many years. The depot is still there and contains a museum and many pictures lining the walls both upstairs and downstairs. There is also a model railroad in one section that is usually open on weekends.
