Buildings are looking great. Something you may try is epoxy a sheet metal angle piece to the roof and put some small self tapping screws through the sidewall to hold the roof on. Enjoying watching your layout come together.

I love how you’re actually made the track go through the engine shed. Whereas before it wasn’t made to do so, I just love how you’ve shaped it to travel through the structure! I’m so impressed with your design style and how you improvise your work with your railway! I used to have a small G-scale railway and was sadly abandoned after my grandfather left it behind after he moved out of his house. He sold all of his trains and everything that he owned that was there; so for me seeing your videos of building your railway, really inspires me to make my own. I am only 28 and live with an Autism and a learning disability, so I can’t really make myself a railway myself because of the lack of knowledge and experience to do it. Not to forget that I also live in apartment complex with a back garden that is also rented… so I can’t really make myself a living Railway. So seeing this just makes me so excited and happy to see this evolving ever closer to being completed

I am sorry for your situation, it isn´t easy for sure. I am glad to provide some nice videos for you that hopeflully make you happy and give something to dream about. At least you can witness how to build a garden railroad from day 1 to completion. Maybe you are gaining some knowledge for your own layout one day. Never stop following your dreams, if you work hard enough they will come true.

I am really enjoying the progress. I think the lighting in the buildings always is one of those little things that makes it look real. We always expect buildings to have lights at night, and on a model, it makes us believe there are people in there who've turned on the lights. ;-) I wonder if you will paint the buildings so they don't look so plastic. Will you be painting them and weathering them a bit? Looking forward to seeing it in the evening when lights are on at the buildings and the lamp posts on the platforms, with some figures there waiting for the trains, and workers over in the Stellwerk, and freight house. Thanks for the updates!
@summitrailway
@summitrailway 6 ай бұрын
Hi! Thank´s for your nice words. Regarding the weathering I can only say ... it´s a garden railroad, nature will take care of weathering sooner or later. The freight house sits outside for several months at this point and it already looks totally weathered. Figures will be the last step to finish up the layout, there is a lot to be done until the figures will get placed but they will come eventually.

Looks fantastic. I’m always jealous of the railroaders that can have a layout outside. I like in the desert Southwest of the U.S. and the sun destroys Pola buildings in a year
@summitrailway
@summitrailway 6 ай бұрын
That´s unfortunate. I am glad you like my layout so far! Building a layout outside has always some challenges, regardless of where it is. Some have strong winters with frost, some have wild live and others strong winds to deal with. But that makes this hobby fun, it´s like a real railway and on top of that you get all four seasons.

Leider haben wir keinen Garten, aber in unserer großen Wohnung, oder besser gesagt, in meiner Man's Cave, kann ich mich im Format N auf knapp 8m² austoben. It's very nice, the buildings look great! I'm concerned about you putting plywood base in the ground without sealing the edges of the plywood. They will wick up water and your bases will rot very quickly. Love your channel!
@AlfredBelpaire1820
@AlfredBelpaire1820 6 ай бұрын
Giving them an epoxy coating may help... Kind of epoxy paint they use on boat or two components paint. Other option would be to pour concrete in a mold but that's more work... Other option could be to drill holes in an outdoor thick terrace tile... or replace the wood after a few years if needed.
@summitrailway
@summitrailway 6 ай бұрын
Your concern is partially right. It is wood in the ground and it will rot eventually. This kind of plywood is used for trailer floors and so on, it is very water resistant in itself. But more importantly is the fact that the "ground", in my case the track ballast has a very good drainage and won´t have standing water or moisture for a long period of time. This will extend the live of the plywood many years. I guess it will hold up 6 to 10 years.

Its looking really good. I am suprised there wasn't a form of location pegs on the roof top of the water tower. The upper section may need some weight to stay on in winter winds as it seems just to sit on the base unit. This is what I am asuming from only seeing things from the video. Possibly some of the gravel would add some weight and prevent it lifting like the lunar module if the wind decides to try its worst.
@summitrailway
@summitrailway 6 ай бұрын
Yeah, I would have expected some sort of location pegs as well but now it is glued in place and won´t move anyway. The top section is pretty secure on the lower half. The pipe which is holding the whole tower upright is also holding the top kind of in pace. The wind would need to lift it up vertically to get up and over the pipe, thats highly unlikely in my opinion. But you never know, your concern might be right.

Hi! I’ve been watching your videos for the last couple days, and your railway looks amazing! Can’t wait to see it in operation! How many feeders for the track are you using for such a big system? I plan on installing 120meters of track and I’m confused about this for a dcc system..
@summitrailway
@summitrailway 6 ай бұрын
I am glad you like my layout! Technically you only need one feeder for your dcc layout. There are so many variables that it is hard to say how many you will need eventually. It is very important to use some sort of screw connector between the different rail sections and to use as long rail sections as possible to begin with. Every track seem means resistance for the electricity, so if you can avoide them you are the winner. Use a very heavy gauge wire to feed your track. After all if you can implement what I have written above I would say at 120m you will need 2 to 3 feeders spread over the whole layout.

Good thought. Maybe Robert can make a hole for the coupling and even put a little bit of foam where the buffers go.
@summitrailway
@summitrailway 6 ай бұрын
