Nice footage! I like that it shows how SUNRISE DANCES were back then. (Not Sun Dance) This is a coming of age ceremony for an Apache girl who is becoming a woman.

it's gems like this upload that I seek out on KZbin, unedited, unproduced, no added music. I do wish for some explanatory notes but can determine it's early 1970s. very interesting for people like me.

its amazing that their customs - langue and dances survived that kind of oppression - hail to the apace people

yup that is renzie gordon singing and chairman lupe drumming the songs are different now. the dancing forward and backward is old school and had a purpose not many dance like that now.

what's the purpose for dancing forward and backwards? 👀
@thomaspatten44708 жыл бұрын
+Tristen Grey it has power in helping the girl throughout ceremony. the medicine men had no say in the massage part nor would be left alone with the girl or even touch the girl only the older woman conducted the massage part. medicine man only sang and prayed.

+Tristen Grey its totally diffrent now where the medicine man does the crown dance it was one who specialized in the crown dance and he only conducted that part. two medicine men helping one another. today its different.

wow that's very interesting to know, I've always wondered about the women dancing, thanks for sharing your knowledge with me 👌 also by any chance do you know the date of this dance?
@thomaspatten44708 жыл бұрын
+Tristen Grey sometime between late 50's to Early 70's notice that there's only 4 drums only. the tobacco that was smoked was traditional tobacco not the store bought and no basket dancers. this ceremony is on the white mountian apache tribe that's where my grandmother and mother are from.

I don't know what this is, a bunch of indignous people in white man's clothes,dancing around, this is not a sundance a sundance was to prove a warriors courage and it wasn't a nice dance about. Although the dance is more real then they are today.
