Thank you for reminding me of Soldevi Excavations. I think that also has a home in the new Dr. Who decks, as long as you're running River Song as your commander. Being able to draw the better of whatever's on top of your library or whatever's on the bottom is worth three mana, I'd say.

100%. Soldevi Excavations was one of the first cards I put into the River Song decklist I put in my short for her.

I love your deck techs for kind of a weird reason. For starters you're obviously a really good deck builder. But on a slightly stranger angle I actually really like that you build higher budget level decks. Not CEDH clearly but just casual decks where there is not a strict budget. I enjoy playing The ability to see decks that are made with almost all of the 26,000 cards available at the deck builders disposal. I definitely think that budget deck building videos are important for large percentage of the audience but they really miss me as an older player who has a large collection. I really enjoy seeing your decks for so many reasons but this is one of the big ones. It's nice to have a really straightforward and skilled deck builder on KZbin pumping out videos like this that can showcase what you can do with these commanders without slapping a 50 or $75 budget on it. This is something that's important for people who are just starting out on the game or don't have or not willing to contribute a significant amount of money to the game. But it doesn't really show you all that you can do with the commander or the deck if you're limiting yourself so hard in that way.

Thank you so much!! I wish I could ♥ this comment 1,000,000 times!!! This is PRECISELY why I made my channel. I want to showcase the casual potential of commanders for EVERYONE because if you're on a budget, you can always swap out cards to better suit your needs. But the overall idea remains the same. Your other points are also great. Budget channels are necessary for beginners but the economy of MtG is always in flux. I remember being given flak once for including Three Visits in a couple of my videos and then it was eventually reprinted and is now ~$4. The same goes the other way around. A $25-deck 3 years ago could potentially be as much as $50 today. Budget isn't written in stone. And not even strategy is, either. But if the idea is good, then the concept is still good regardless of how old the video is. They're still relevant. So I wanted my content to appeal to as many people as possible without alienating those who've been playing for a long time. Especially since commander has such a vast card pool to build from. I've been playing since Fallen Empires myself and I love finding old and niche cards that can be played in decks as well as finding the best possible cards (within reason). So I'm very grateful for your comment because you hit all the nails on the head! All of those are the exact reasons why I started my channel in the first place. No one was building decks like I do. And I didn't do it to farm views or subscribers - that was always a bonus for me. I just wanna brew, fam.

@@TheCommanderTavern That's so great to hear man! I'm happy to give you this kind of feedback and I'm glad that it's exactly what you were trying to do with your channel. I have been playing your mazirek deck for years now and out of all 30 of my decks it's the only one that I don't do any updates to myself and just follow your list. Although I have added some of the more relic pieces of my collection to it like some fast mana that you didn't include. But nevertheless there's something about your deck building style that just hits the exact same mark that I'm trying to hit. One of the greatest things about commander to me is that you can use nearly all 26,000 cards to make whatever deck you want. And unfortunately for people who don't have those cards many of them are expensive. Fortunately for those who are willing to proxy, it doesn't matter lol. To be able to play a Minotaur tribal deck alongside necropotence and wheel of Fortune is basically exactly what I want from this format. Endless reach from the very beginning of the game in the '90s to the most current set to the most jank cards possible to the most competitive cards ever printed save the power nine. I have also been playing since about mirage and so have built a large collection over time. That's why I love Commander so much. It's a way to play with my enormous collection and constantly discover new cards and new strategies. I'm glad that some people are having fun with the format from a very tight budget standpoint but, proxy or no, That's not what I enjoy about it. I enjoy the unrestricted creativity rather than trying to put a box around the format and make it more restrictive. So yeah I wasn't surprised when I found your channel again and immediately took to liking some of the decks on here greater than most other EDH KZbin deck builders, before realizing who was behind the channel haha.

@@ironjawedangels2812 Exactly! While restriction breeds creativity, to me it has always been more fun looking through ~20,000 cards to find the best of those for whatever strategy I want - whether it's jank or not. Just because you have a jank strategy doesn't mean you can't run the best cards for it. That's why I've always focused more on which cards better fit the strategy (within reason). And I always test on Cockatrice since everything there is free.

It reminds me of Jetmir in a way where the commander sits in the zone until ready to smash face and pump everything on the board. I ended up switching to Jinnie fae from Jetmir because she freaks the other players out less and makes playing Jetmir from the hand more of a surprise so players don’t have their removal ready. This deck could run in to similar issues with Quan being in the command zone, but blue also has more counter spells so it may not be as big of an issue if there’s enough interaction.

Very true, which is why the deck has such a dedicated countermagic suite to noncreature spells as well as a lot of protective equipment - including all the Swords of X and Y. And even then, there're 2 creatures in the 99 with a similar ability at the same casting cost. So it's way more viable.

@@TheCommanderTavern Agreed. One of my favorite equipments for decks like these is conquerors flail. It gives the grand abolisher/Myrel effect of being uninterrupted but can be run in mono blue. 😎👍
