A few simple tips to maintain your Bermuda Lawn during the summer heat. We start by identify any irrigation, pest or disease issues. Correcting those issues and then moving on to continued fertilizer applications. I would recommend “spoon feeding” your lawns with a half rate application of fertilizer product of your choosing based on soil test taken in the early part of the season. The next tip would be to begin a “syringe soaking” of your lawn which is simply a 2-3min irrigation cycle to cool off your lawn at the hottest part of the day. Maintaining Bermuda lawns in the summer heat can be as easy or as difficult as you desire but keeping to the basic and keeping the Bermuda lawns mowed and water will surely help your Bermuda lawn thrive during the summer heat.

Semper fi! Any post emergent right now I’d get down early morning or late evening. The label usually states to no spray when temps are above 85-90 degrees. If you haven’t already throw down some pre-emergent now and follow up back end of September to keep that crab grass away next season.

Great tips as always! I saw the forecast for EP next week and it didn’t register in my brain to get some fungicide down 🤦‍♂️. Disease issues ruined my new sod last year. Thanks to your tips (discovered your channel in April) I’ve been able to improve it this year to 90% green coverage!

I’m trying to get my front yard bermuda to start spreading. I would say about half my yard has grass and the other half is weeds or bare spots. I’m using 26-0-0 for now. Should I spoon feed or keep hitting it with a full pound per thousand once a month? Thanks from San Antonio.

Great question and anytime your trying to push growth and fill in bare areas I would stick with the 3/4lb of N per 1,000. A fill pound is a lot but if you can keep it mowed as short as possible and as frequent as possible then stay on the higher side of N.

So should we combine the fertilizer and the fungicide or different applications ? My lawn is suffering and Turing yellow in the center of the area. And is any 21-0-0 fertilizer okay? Learning as I go.
@SunCityLawnCare
@SunCityLawnCare Жыл бұрын
Howdy and you can combine Fert and fungicide at the same time he’s. Any 21-0-0 is good and if you can find one with some Potassium even better.

is that ring of discolored turf around the sprinkler head caused by the water droplets acting like a magnifying glass and burning the leaf surface?

Thanks for some tips I live in north part of California a few years ago I rode my bicycle to El Paso Texas it was the most friendliest town I have ever experienced in the United States. You live in place with a amazing view of the horizon more then any ocean sunset that I have seen. I have been starting my property with natural shrubs and Bermuda grass I water every three days only just to keep things a natural feel. I am currently at war with goat heads I keep removing them every time they start to engage for battle. Do you have any suggestions or do I gust keep up the fight so far I think I am winning!!!

Such an awesome response! Thank you for the kind words to our city. As far as the goat heads, you will want to implement a solid pre-emergent program 3 times per season to prevent them from compounding.

How long should you water in the morning. Is mowing the same as cutting the grass in the morning also should you water after the Hass cut or not.
@SunCityLawnCare
@SunCityLawnCare Жыл бұрын
Your duration of watering all depends on your irrigation system and output. Just ensure your lawn gets 1-1.5inches of water per week. We try not to mow wet grass as it will stick to the underside of the mower and not allow it to cut properly. So try to mow on non watering days. Mowing during the summer heat is best in the mornings or early evenings during the cooler part of the day.

I would suggest spring time once the lawn has come out of dormancy. If it hasn’t been done yet then anytime is good.

Both are great, just depends on your lawns nutrient needs based on a soil test.

If you water in the morning only, for how long? We live in Tucson, AZ and we can’t figure out how many minutes, and if it’s everyday or how. Help please.
@SunCityLawnCare

My system on the larger portion of my yard runs for 26min total. Cycle 13 min then goes to other zones and will come back to do the an additional 13min. Never water everyday u less it’s new sod. You want the root system to reach down for the water so a day break between watering. If your running irrigation you will want to measure your irrigation system output. Run your system and see how long it take to fill up a tuna can. (Literally). If it took 60 minutes to fill it up, divide that by 3 days of watering meaning water each day for 20 minutes thus giving you a total of 1 inch of water per week. Lawns need 1-1.5inches of water per week. Place the can I’m different areas of your lawn to test output at different locations. Make sense?

I put down weed and feed Sunday with the idea to kill off the little bit of St Augustin. Instead I have some burn marks on Burmuda from the broadcaster not set accurate. I'm watering the f$%k out of it now. If you have any words of wisdom let me know. Enjoyed the video.

You will not be able to kill off a southern grass (st Augustine) from another southern grass type (Bermuda) unfortunately. Weed control period has to be applied when temperatures are below 85 degrees also.

That’s one question nobody has a solution for. What I like to do keep the turf low so those stolons keep spreading and also give those pee spots some extra water by hand.
