When did 'landscape' mean rock beds? Title is misleading and duuumb
@jamesj89735 күн бұрын
Dealing with exactly this. I hardly see any grass at this point. It's all just Quack. Some young sprouts and some very mature. My gardeners come every 2 weeks and mow really low, but it's not enough. It's totally taken over this past summer. I'm starting to just Dig them up physically to remove the most mature ones. Then at least I'll see what grass I have left to work with. Doubt fert is helpful to me now without any grass to actually promote.

@johnh486317 күн бұрын
I usually mulch when I cut. Except when the grass is long like this I always bag it. Mulching sometimes makes too much of a mess. Then it takes longer to blow off the sidewalks and driveways. Bagging seems like a pain a lot of times but makes it easier at the same time.

Thank you for this awesome information! We live in Ohio and my daughter has a landscaped (with mulch) area around her house that grows nothing but weeds. They (and I) have tried Roundup and other brands to kill them (also used Preen!) and nothing seems to work. I have never NOT had luck with weed/grass killer. I am going to buy Nutria and add baby shampoo. I will be applying it tomorrow. I hope it works! I'll keep you posted.

Good Morning, I have been watching your videos on KZbin. I want to do a zero scape in my front lawn in Florida. It will be all rocks. Do I put landscape fabric down before the rocks or just use the rocks an no fabric. I don't want to have to do this project twice. I also want to kill all the grass and weeds. I just watched your video where you recommended Natria. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Darlene
@SunCityLawnCare24 күн бұрын
Howdy and thanks for watching. Typically with rock landscaping you’d want to put down a 4 or 6 mil black plastic as a weed and grass barrier. If not you can expect all the undersirables to grow between the rocks. Also prior to laying down the weed barrier you can apply a pre-emergent like Prodiame or any non selective to kill actively growing weeds or grasses.
@dc-gb4be23 күн бұрын
@@SunCityLawnCareThank you so much for responding. I watched the video where you recommended Natria to kill weeds and lawn. Would that be ok to use before plastic and stones?

Is it okay to lay bermuda in July or wait til fall- Sept. Thanks
@SunCityLawnCare24 күн бұрын
Depends on your location and temps. I get request to lay sod all year long and have done plenty of sod installs with 100 degree plus temps. The catch is it will require more watering.

@SunCityLawnCare24 күн бұрын
The problem is that the excessive top growth can create an excessive thatch layer if not bagged. The DIYer can bag but your typical lawn care business does not. It also can create issues but not allowing the sunlight to penetrate the lower leaf tissue.

How do you clean up the dead weeds after they turn yellow in the rocks?
@intrpolfan1Ай бұрын
Hi! Thank you for this video very informative video! We removed artificial turf and it’s hard as a rock. We collected sand as best as we could and notice there are small rocks. Any advice on tiling? Someone told me it could sink! Are they full of it? Sorry, I’ve never done this but want to do exactly what you just did and any advice will be so appreciated! We are in Southern CA.
@SunCityLawnCare24 күн бұрын
I know exactly what you’re referring to and the best option would be to keep digging till you get to actual dirt. One of our last sod installs had the remains of Crushed Rock and we brought in a skid loader to remove most of it.

Do you have any experience with inexpensive soil pH testers that display the result on a gauge or digital display? I bought one and it says my soil is over 9.0, so very alkaline.
@SunCityLawnCare24 күн бұрын
Howdy and I have used those before from the big box store. Even the ones with droplets and tablets. They do their job to an extent and over the years local University studies are cheap as well and give far more details and accuracy. But if you are Alkaline you will want to apply Elemental Sulfur.

@SunCityLawnCareАй бұрын
Semper fi! Any post emergent right now I’d get down early morning or late evening. The label usually states to no spray when temps are above 85-90 degrees. If you haven’t already throw down some pre-emergent now and follow up back end of September to keep that crab grass away next season.
@Not_So_Weird_in_AustinАй бұрын
In Austin I used box store perennial rye and it has never come back which is ok as the Bermuda comes back. You have to be careful on straw it can have persistent/selective herbicide sprayed when growing which stays active when the straw breaks down. The herbicide can stay active for a year or two. Same goes for any manure. A test is before use to start peas or beans in two seperate cups and it they thrive you are good if stunted discard. Test each bag....

Question if i may - how thick should the top soil be before soding? Thank you.

Any thickness you’d like. Some grades need to come up more than others. I keep our soil lines 1/2inch below hard surfaces like patios.

Depends, if your dealing with a curative application leave on and let dry before your next watering. A preventative can be watered in directly afterwards.

I brought a home that had new sod placed in the front about 6 months ago. We have been having rain frequently in the past few months so I have never watered it. I am in the south and it’s been very hot the past few weeks. I have several patches in the sod that are brownish and yellow in color. I have started watering it twice a day. Is there anything else I can do or put down to bring it back to life? Can the sod be saved? Thank you for any tips.

Lots of rain, increased humidity and heat is a recipe for fungus issues. I’d start with that if you haven’t already. The same can be said with pest control.

I’m having such a hard time growing my tall fescue in my most shaded back yard, it’s been a few weeks since germinating and the roots still seem very very shallow(can easily be pulled out by hand) I water twice a day. In the mostly sunny area(mostly in the sun during the day) it’s just having a hard time growing. Is it just too hot to seed?
@VAHustlerАй бұрын
If temps are above 80 most likely. It's summer now, TF isn't going to grow much until fall
@SunCityLawnCareАй бұрын
Howdy and great question, so fescue Overseeding is a Fall time period process so that you’ve got no issue going into the following spring and summer. A spring time seeding can take place if some early enough so that you’ve got solid germination and mature grass before the heat comes. For now I’d keep it well irrigated and fertilized.
