I’m wondering if only your trunk was involved which is possible since it was a lifted truck you could replace the deck lid from a matching car in a junk yard? You might have to do some pounding on the latch to get it to line up properly and lock but it might be worth looking into.

Thumping noises in the back combined with poor shock absorption is usually either worn out bushings or bad shock absorbers. Mid level expensive, but doable. the body work on the other hand. 😬yikes! And if your 'Check Engine' lights is on, take it to an Autozone, or an Oreilly's, or a Royal Kings, or any of the big auto parts places that have a basic scan tool. Please do this BEFORE you take it to a mechanic. that way you will know the basic problem and they will know not to lie to you.

+epayne6 Honestly, that's always a good thing to be aware of and know about because it almost seems like you don't which mechanics one can trust anymore tbh. There are great mechanics out there, but why would one say one thing, but another would say something completely different? And it wasn't even the exact same issue the first mechanic said it was.? I know the places you recommend aren't mechanics necessarily, but it's good to know you can take your care to those places when the check engine light comes on.

@cicicave1279 O'Reillys and them will just do the scan with a low-end/basic scan tool. And depending on who you get that day, some core knowlegde or advice on what's wrong with your car. All the big guys will give you a free printout of the scan too. You take that and the knowledge you gained from them to the mechanic, and they are a lot less likely to try and ripe you off. Cause like you said, finding an honest mechanic can be hard.

Take it to a car parts place like pep boys or auto zone some place like that. Most of them will run your codes for free.

lol glad to hear you're fine. my first accident was in traffic in an onramp with my mom coming back from chemo so it was kind of a stressful situation and both me and my mom were pretty nervous, the opposite of cool calm collected LOL but we were all fine and it was nothing more than a fender bender in the end, and a couple hundreds to repair the bumper (shame on "modern" cars for having so many parking sensors and shit) maybe you should at least get a non-binding quote on car shops around the area and check how much it'd be to fix it. maybe it's less than you expect and it's a couple thou max. or even some hundreds. from what you mention if it's drivable it's just like, a trunk and a bumper maybe a light or two and some sensors, or maybe some bodywork and a lock if you're lucky. and if any of the shops have a "substitution car" (not sure how they're called in english. a loaner car maybe?) then you could also make a video of the "new temporary car" LOL

Glad you are okay. This sounds like an opportunity to turn a disaster into more content. A trip to a local salvage yard to look for a replacement trunk or attempting to hit the dent out of the trunk. DIY automotive content gets pushed to the moon on KZbin. The car is already broken, so it's not like you can break it any more, so there is zero risk and all reward. Also, car lifts can be rented for like $100 per month so you could buy a subscription to that, lift your car, and inspect any damage on the bottom of the car that might be the cause of the bass noise, like the exhaust. An OBD II scanner that works on all cars, like the Blue Driver, could help you discover the source of the check engine light for about $100. I think you could monetize all of this an earn enough from youtube ad revenue to come out ahead. If you had a dash cam installed, which is another video idea, you could have even monetized the crash scene. I think this fender bender could be turned into a very profitable rabbit hole.

dang, glad you are ok! sadly, it is entirely your fault haha. but thankfully, no one was hurt and you caused no damage to his car and you didn't have to use your insurance to pay for his damage. hopefully your trunk also doesn't leak in the rain (obviously depending on damage which you didn't show). the other positive is your vehicle is still safely drivable. and the last positive is when you go to insure your next car you won't have a brand new accident on your record to jack up insurance.

Wait if it's just the trunk lid and/or rear bumper that are damaged, it might be possible to go spend $100 at a salvage yard and get used replacements. The issue would be putting them on, but maybe it'd save you from having to get a new car if you found someone to help you do it/if budget is an issue. If you've got nothing to lose with this car already, it might be worth a shot. The low vibration noise could just be the muffler hitting the bumper/body if it got tweaked somewhat back there (not a big deal). Maybe it's high time to jump into a little challenge like this, because you'll learn a lot and save a lot of cash.

My buddy has a 2018 Ford fusion and he had to take his in for the same type of noise. I believe it had to do with the Evap emissions system…

Go cheap, can get trunk hood and back bumper from a junk yard and someone can paint to match, cost half of a regular repair.

This is the problem with automobiles and insurance nowadays. You buy it new, and it automatically depreciates the moment you sign the contract. Additionally, as you put miles on it and the vehicle ages it continues to depreciate but the amount of money we pay for auto insurance in this country is absurd. Theres upsides to having an older vehicle, but one downside is a lot of insurance companies aren't going to pay out a lot to repair a vehicle if the repair costs exceed its value. It forces a person to have cash in reserve to buy another vehicle and in this economy that's easier said than done.

You should look for higher mileage. 30k miles and lower in anything will be crazy. Try checking out 2010-2015 Toyotas or Hondas with 70k miles and up. The brands will be reliable and the prices will make more sense! But regardless, I wish you all the best! (Edit) Also car and not SUV will keep that price down big time as well. SUVs and Trucks cost a lot more.

Hey Erika, if you could find an used Toyota, they are super reliable. for exaple, corolla, etc, Just get oil change every 3000 miles. Every car I had prior to a toyota sucked, literally. They nickle / dimed me to death.
