Welcome to our series of vlogs where we will be renovating our early 1960's converted bungalow in the beautiful Kent countryside. This renovation will involve a lot of #DIY as we do like to get stuck in however we are not professionals in any way so these are not tutorials 😂. From experience renovating previous properties we know that we learn from our mistakes and pick up new tips, tricks and skills along the way. This is not going to be a quick turn around, we'll be doing this over the course of the next few years so thank you for coming along for the journey, hopefully we'll still have all our limbs, fingers and toes intact by the end of it 🤞🏼

I must admit in Winter it would be nice to have an additional set as our tumble dryer is a heat pump dryer so takes twice as long to dry stuff. Our bedding was quite expensive which is why we didn’t buy 2 sets 🙈

The art of making a home is immensely satisfying. I am what one might call a “Neatener” I suppose. I don’t do one large top to bottom clean, I clean as I go about my day. A cupboard here, a room there, and by the end of the week, everything has been gone over. It is so soothing to watch people clean lol. My sister and I have books dedicated to the art of home cleaning and organizing and what not. It’s so interesting to learn about the different ways people have traditionally tackled the running of a household. Just lovely ❤

We do the same, any time we use something we clean it/put it back in it’s place. We hoover every day, wipe surfaces every day, dust every day but we still like to do the ‘routine’ on a Sunday 🙊

@@EmmaHill My son is also colourblind. We bought him enchroma sunglasses and he can actually see red and green colours. It was autumn here in Canada when he first tried them and he cried when he realized what he had been missing. He was facinated by purple flowers in the summer too.

❤❤❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I was taught and made to clean the house every weekend when I was little (before my teen years) and I hated it! 😩😩😩But now I’m an adult and a home owner I made my own rules. It's good to hear your feedback on white vinegar as I recently bought some lavender oil to use as a laundry fragrance and it says to use it in white vinegar and that along with softening clothes it helps keep whites white and colours bright, along with keeping the machine clean! What a great natural addition! I've also recently switched to laundry sheets, natural, vegan and obviously no packaging to throw away as they come in an envelope! Cleaning can be very calming and meditative when kept on top of and in some cultures, like Japan, it is an essential part of self care and mindfulness being aware of carefully looking after your environment and the things in it. Lovely upload ❤

Tip: You could use a top sheet under the duvet, which really helps protect the duvet cover and minimises washing. Come summer, you can throw off the duvet on warmer nights and still have the benefit of a top sheet to lightly cover you. Works a treat for us all year round. 😊

Emma, this was a great video and wonderful to see how you & Simon keep your beautiful home clean. I totally agree about the bed being made before I go to sleep. My husband and I sometimes make up the bed at night before crawling into it a few hours later with a sigh of contentment ☺️and I think that keeping up the kitchen and bathrooms during the week makes a difference. Our kitchen is cleaned after each use and then the big clean is easier on the weekends.

i am in Australia and have followed you from your very first appearance and remember the last house well and always loved your dogs. My dog is much larger a Belgian Shepherd Tervuren but yours are so gorgeous that they can get on the couch ( on the quiet mind does at night at bedtime but it is covered in rugs etc. Keep up the goodwork

I use the one room a day system but have realised that I never have a day off or that you never feel like you bottomed the house. I used to do what you do on my day off and this has inspired me to go back and see if I prefer this method. It’s funny that we re-evaluate what we do at work all the time but slot into routines at home we never think to change. Love love love this video, you did such a great job renovating this house Emma and Simon ❤ I’d love to see more house related videos we are planning to move to UK and maybe buy a small place and renovate it but I have no idea about the costs and all I see is news about how economy is not really good in the UK well so as everywhere else 😅 and everyone who is quite well off seems to be a influencer lol but we have conventional jobs lawyer and doctor Startup 🤣 so if you can talk about prices a bit more or about the costs of renovation that would be so awesome Again love you and love your videos ❤

The issue with prices and why we don’t really share them is that they vary from area to area so will never be accurate for others, they might not even be in the same ballpark. Not everyone’s homes are the same either so whilst a bathroom project may cost £6k for us someone else may have unknown issues with their bathroom which would end up costing double. If asked we will share the overall cost for a specific project but we always warn people to not use that as their own ‘budget setter’, the best way to get an idea of cost is to get several quotes for your own project. Generally at the moment in the UK costs have gone up a lot for everything which is why we haven’t been able to do certain projects yet. Labour is up because cost of living is up and raw materials are also up so yes, at the moment it is quite expensive to renovate x

I was thinking that you guys never clean your houses and your houses always stay clean. I was thinking you got this privilige. Its because im from Turkey and we raised in a cleaning house trauma from our childhood to adult. Cleaning takes all day and everyday and it was so difficult and misery. I love cleaning myself and I’m just about to start my routine, and the bedding is also a Sunday morning job and I too only have the one duvet, so much easier!! Happy Sunday lovely x
