I think the big story going into the 2000 season is who is going to take the DEI 8 car, which is going to be a tight battle between Smoke and Dale Jr. You add Matt Kenseth at Penske, and Page Jones at Bill Davis, and you might have the biggest rookie class in Cup ever in 2000. Besides, where would Kelley Earnhardt go if Tony Stewart takes the 14?

Is Ray Evernham Jeff Gordon's crew chief in this universe? Could Bill Davis Racing switch as in real life? I expect Petty Enterprises and Bill Elliott's team as well, Sabco?

Evernham may remain the crew chief for Jeff Gordon for the rest of the 2000 season, then leave Bill Davis racing and enter his ownership with Dodge for 2001. with Jeff Godon still the driver for Bill Davis Racing, the team may stay with Ford for 2001-his retirement tour in either 2015 or 16. Chase Elliott still replaces him and still become his successor like in real-life. Bill Elliott is a co-owner of the #9 Ford with both Harry Melling and the now-retired NFL quarterback Dan Marino. so, he won't race for Evernham Motorsports in this timeline. as for both Petty Enterprises and the Sabco team, one of them switches to Dodge, while one stays loyal with Pontiac for 2001.

@@Boggs1993 I think Ray Evernham leaves the crew chief business at the same time as real life, then heads over to the Chrysler Building in Detroit to install the timer countdown clock, and then once the timer is installed and the countdown starts, begin to make preperations for not only his own team, but also the other teams that will switch to Dodge and start ups that will run Dodges like Evernham. I guess the real question right now is who will be Jeff Gordon's crew chief for the 2000 season and beyond. Even if Bill Elliott doesn't drive for Evernham, I still think his team Elliott-Melling Racing would be the leading canididate to make the switch over to Dodge. I'd doubt SABCO would risk leaving Pontiac for a new manufactuer like Dodge for the time being, considering the team is considered to be Pontiac's powerhouse team, and if SABCO Racing left them, then Pontiac would just be a "zombie" brand. And since the 43 is becoming more and more like a 4th SABCO car, then Petty Enterprises switching to Dodge is off the table. With that said, here's a list of teams that I personally think would be in contention to make the switch over to Dodge. 1. Elliott-Melling Racing 2. Bobby Allison Motorsports 3. SS Motorsports 4. Chip Ganassi Racing (whether it's his own team from the IMSA GT Stock Series expanding to Cup or him buying a stake in an existing team that's not SABCO Racing) 5. Joe Gibbs Racing with Terry Labonte
