I like the distinction between self soothing and self care. Like self soothing is just the toolbox for now, to step away and not use a more destructive coping mechanism.

I think it's something not talked enough about online- I'm all for self care (obviously) but I feel like social media has really tainted what self care- when that's more of self soothing/pampering you know? YES I love that way of looking at it- it's the toolbox for NOW but not helping you long term. Like if I'm feeling anxious, a nice hot pamper shower and a face mask to me is self soothing but that's helping me cope long term! Just in the moment!

I think well have different ideas of what messy and dirty are and that's okay! I should have probably said cluttered or messy moreso than dirty but we really love a clean minimalistic kitchen so anytime there's a dish or two on the counter it needs to be put away right away LOL
