I’m looking forward to the follow up video regarding the future of Stg/Macbaren/sutliff. Thank you for investing energy in getting and presenting this info for us. Cheers!

It’s a bummer about Sutliff, I did an order of my favorite blends from them this week. Probably do a couple of more orders before march. I’ll primarily be switching to majority of my tobacco being ordered from C&D. We need to make sure they stay at all costs.

A Lancero is a long, thin stick, 6"-7" X 38-43 ring gauge. Sometimes they call the longer ones Panatelas. Your 2000s are 5" X 50 (if you're not familiar, ring gauge is measured in 64ths of an inch).

The real issue is swedish match has 49% holding in stg. Phillip Morris/Altria recently purchased swedish match. So I suspect it won't be much longer and the Altria group will be on the verge or is on the threshold of having the monopoly on the entire tobacco industry
@THall-vi8cp14 сағат бұрын
You are correct in that lanceros are long and thin. The original lancero was the El Laguito No. 1, a 7-1/2 × 38, pigtail-capped Cohiba that debuted in the 1960s. That particular vitola is difficult to roll because it is very easy to overpack or underpack the filler. It has to be just right or the draw is not only off, the stick is ruined. Today, most lanceros are a bit shorter, around an even seven inches, often with a slightly larger gauge. For me, the draw of a lancero is that it has a higher proportion of wrapper to filler, which highlights the flavors and aromas of the wrapper. Some brands that make excellent lanceros are My Father, Tatuaje, La Flor Dominicana, Aladino, and Tabernacle.

At least there is no bad news regarding Gawith. I’ve stocked up as much as I can on ODF and Rustica. My big regret is not having the psychic powers when Maple Shadows came out to have bought five or more tins.

Why would you buy a brand and then discontinue the blends? Isn't that half the reason you bought it in the first place?
@rustbeltpipes15 сағат бұрын
There will almost certainly be a huge group of blends that get discontinued. I'm betting that there will be some gnarly closeout sales in Feb/March.

If I lose my Bold Kentucky Flake in whatever is going on, I'm not going to be happy at all and I will boycott whatever they do offer, if they still offer anything at all. I will actively avoid putting money in their pockets. A very high number of critical blends are on the line but HH Bold Kentucky is what gets me to work each morning.

The Strokes are my all time favorite band. Saw them on tour with the Red Hot Chili Peppers last year. Curious what your favorite song of theirs is? Are you going to listen to the version with NYC Cops or the American release? You are going to confirm the information about STG before sharing with us?!? Do people still do that 🤣🤣. Based on your reaction I’m not sure I want to know now 😢. A Lancero is a thin long cigar - typically 38 ring gauge and 7 inches long. Some people love them because there is less filler so you get more flavor from the wrapper. The downside is that smaller ring gauge cigars tend to have a tighter draw.

Thanks for the info! I don't know if I could pick a favorite song by The Strokes, but they are one of my all time favorite bands for sure.

We have limited MacBaren blends in the UK and hardly any sutliff can you ask the STG person if they are going to roll out more MacBaren blends in the UK? Trying to see if there is any positive to this for someone 😊

I got some info as well, small but might be important to folks who are able to order online. Tobaccopipes has until March 31st 2025 to close up shop. The person I spoke to did say they will be “rerouting” but the person I spoke to didn’t expand on that. I’m sure most people have heard this. But incase anyone hasn’t. It’s unfortunate for me because I can order from TP. And get the delivery next day because I’m so close to them.
@stuffandthingsyoutube18 сағат бұрын
Yep. My understanding is that they will be folded into another online retailer that STG owns.

It was my understanding that the EU passed an antitrust law that takes effect in January, so the purchase of MacBaren had to get done in a hurry. I don't know how many are aware of the fact that STG has owned the retailer Pipes & Burning Sticks for a couple of years now. Looking forward to what you find out!
@stuffandthingsyoutube18 сағат бұрын
Yep. And they now own cupojoes and tobaccopipes I believe.
@tombrown189817 сағат бұрын
@stuffandthingsyoutube They got those two when they were acquired by Sutliff, before STG acquired MacBaren.

Everyone is in a panick. I'm into cigars and STG is already a big player. It makes sense they would acquire and the consolidate to cut costs. But like cigars the number of cigars are countless. As a business person they'll probably do what cigars and C&D do, create more and more blends to create more profits.

Unfortunately, starting about a decade ago, it has been a dark time for pipe smokers. Oh and you have that song stuck in your head because it's good ol' Steve Winwood and Chaka Khan. 😊

*Inserts dramatic music here.* Dun dun DUUUUUUUUUN! It's always disappointing to hear when a small company sells out to a larger corporation. I don't think contracts are enough to enforce small company/family values because of a recent case involving Ben and Jerry's ice cream v. Nestle. I don't want to get too political on here, so you should research that if you want to find out more. I hope that the Stg/Mac Baren/Sutliff situation is sorted for those who do partake in the hobby. I mentioned Ben and Jerry's because it was the closest example I can think of without going too far off topic.

Yeah, I'm almost never a fan of "acquisition." It rarely turns out better for the consumer.

I found out the hard way about the STG thing yesterday when I got my shipment of Kramer's Father Dempsey... It's literally NOTHING like it was !! It's ruined. That's been my morning blend for over 8 years.. I love it so much. I'm broken hearted..
