Hi, Lost my 1st reply. I made a Bob out of pool noodles for my Laser in Canada as I love Dingy Bob on my Sunfish in Venice Fl. Cut up 2 noodles in about 14” pieces - Strung together - clipped to the sail strap on mast top of Laser sleeve - I haven’t tested it but it should work as 2 noodles can float a heavy sailor. I’m a senior retired physio and all about safety. Lasers are much tippier than Sunfish. I did share this with Kent as I did not want to cut into the sail sleeve of the Laser to install Dingy Bob.Thanks for the video. You rock!!

Thank you! And good idea to not cut up the sail :). Sail safe!

First day sailing with the dinghy Bob on a mini fish. Work beautifully during a capsize (unintentional). I’m not out there to capsize. Dinghy Bob gives me one less thing to worry about, turtling. Great video. Thanks

Glad it works well for you and it does give ine a sense of confidence that they will not turtle, making sailikg more fun!

I've been nervous about turning turtle since my very first sailing experience. It was on a Luger Sailfish that my father and I had just built and I was about 12. Out on Lake Ronkonkoma, turned turtle and the upper spar got stuck in the mud. My father finally wrenched it free, but bent the upper spar, folding it. Thanks for the review, I'll be purchasing one!

Caro Lee. Biagio Carbone - circolo Vela Mare 83, Messina - Italia.

I bought this last year and like buying a new snow blower prevents snow I didn't flip for the rest of the season. It works! Hahaha. I'm sure I'll be testing it for real this season.

Al Courtines Technologies uses a gimble mounted beer holder. When my boat turns turtle, the beer stays fresh. Saves a lot of beer! My windsurfing experience tells me to rotate the boat back up with the wind at your back, otherwise it may flip over on its other side. Let the water spill out of your sail slowly, or you risk bending the spar. I hope the dingy bob can rotate freely so it can align itself with the apparent wind.

I zip tie a swimming pool noodle to the top of the spar. It's a bonus that they come in different colors to match your sail

Have you tried a 1 gallon milk jug tied to top of mast? We have some Barnett 1400's in our fleet. Same length as Sunfish but larger cockpit and wider. Suits larger sailor or 2 sailors better than a Sunfish. We sail on Lake Michigan and some folks have found it difficult to right after capsize, especially if turtles. I did some tests and found 1 gallon jug works, 2 jugs even better. I had boat capsized then stood on horizontal mast to sink it. With 2 jugs it came back to surface right away. I also saw an article on DIY bob using a lobster net float so Im going to try a 2 gallon version. What do you think? On Barnett it is easy to tie jug or lobster float onto the halyard shackle or sail grommets so no complicated fixing required. Cost :"milk jug free

I know people who have used gallon jugs, milk, bleach. Etc etc. it’s basically all Tyne same principle. Yes they work too. But someone may not like the look of one vs another. :). Appreciate the comments!

@@LeeSideSailing we were given a nice Hobie Getaway this year at our club. Someone thought the Mama Bob was a radar mast, so I just tell anyone who asks that it came with built in Sat-Nav!!!
@LeeSideSailing3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha. I told someone something similar-- Like it was a radar antenna:)

Good idea for sure. Hobie Cat has had this for a long time for the exact same reason.

I can't believe that you didn't lay it over in waist deep water to show how it floats....
@LeeSideSailing3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking to do that. But if it was going to turtle, then I wanted it to be able to turtle! :).

Leave your mast watertight and the boat will not turtle.

Most masts are not water tight, but i hear what you are saying! :)
