SUNK MERCURY VERADO 300 HP ! Will It Run After 11 Days Underwater? (Part 1)

Күн бұрын

The restoration process of this 300 hp Mercury Verado has begun ! So far so good everything looks pretty good since we retrieved her from 97 ft of salt water. For those that havnt seen the initial video of the accident its also on my channel. We were doing a sea trial on a 10 meter Fluid Rib boat and the bolts sheared off. Regrettably the rigging department had put Honda bolts with Mercury nuts and the engine came undone. I went back with a team of proffesional divers and my mechanic and retrieved her. Now we begin trying to bring her back to life. It will be hard but we will try to make her run again.
Special thanks to Eric and Jeremy from South Florida Marine Center . A big shout out at the fine people at Carrera Powerboats for supplying me with much-needed parts at no cost! Thanks Al Giz and Anthony you guys are first class !

Look up how to change the oil on a Verado, Its a special procedure. In order to fully drain it you have to be able to trim her all the way up.

I was thinking when i saw the first video (where it came unhinged) that likely the leg touched the prop of the other engine, which was still turning. I am pleased to see you pull it out and work on it. Never mind the nay sayers', the motor was made to work in a salt environment and will not likely suffer too badly as a result of its little side trip to the locker. Buena suerte.

The hole in the front of the gearcase is from impact. While it was running. That engine wouldve hit the soft ocean floor flywheel first at nearly 100 feet. Thats why the bolts sheared off. Correct or not.

Wow great video. Clean the computer boards, all electronics and connectors with distilled water then isopropyl alcohol . Next coat all contacts with CRC 2-26 precision lube from home Depot. I am an Electrical Engineer I design systems to live in salt environmemts. Long term the salt will cause problems for the computer. The boards are probably coated but under water for days is bad. I think I would have filled the crank case with methanol first "dry gas" to absorb the water then diesel. Just a thought. Good luck. Joe

Yes, as soon as I saw the hole I thought they hit something. As fast as you were going you could’ve hit a piece of debris and never knew it. Anything is possible but wouldn’t the other engine or boat have comparable damage if the hole was caused from impacting them? I guess you’ll never know for sure.

Guys with respect I most say I see a big effort and team work trying to save the engine but in my opinion there are some things I will do different. I will explain. Just after taking all the salt water from the system and the sparks and before turning the engine by hand, you should have sprayed some WD40 on each of the cylinder, for those that doesn't know the meaning of WD40 is Water Displacement formula 40. What this action does is to initially lubricate and displace water from the pistons, pistons rings and cylinder wall to avoid damage when turning bone dried without any kind of lubricant especially when turning the engine using the starter. Miracle oil is an over kill in my opinion, using diesel fuel and regular four stroke oil is enough and the results will be similar at the end. Last Get a Shop Light Bro LOL. I hope you guys put it together and get it running soon.

i'd probably start with submerging it in fresh water and draining it daily over the next week with the last couple days using deionized water to remove as much salt as possible prior to starting to using petroleum products. i'll be impressed if the computer works, or lasts after being that deep in salt water for 2 weeks. i wouldnt trust any wire left on it though. the coils will probably be ok as they are usually epoxy potted. other than that if theres no corrosion on any of the aluminum id venture that everything mechanical not damaged will be able to remain serviceable.
