At 1080p resolutions, the video is clear when the scene doesn't contain a lot of detail. When the scenery is more complex, the details are blurred. I believe you when you said that the lake is beautiful, but the beauty was somewhat blurred by the 1080p resolution. Definitely way too many people out and about on Golden Week. Seems like you have to get up really early and beat the crowd just to go anywhere.
