The very last point is the most important and warrants a whole lecture series. These issues have been discussed for the last 1400 years but between scholars. The plebs were given basic guidance and got on with their uncomplicated lives. They had heard of sahih Bukhari et all but never had access to them. Then with the advent of cheaper books (and later internet) and with petro-dollars, people who have been untrained in Islamic sciences have purchased scholarly works such as sahih Bukhari, read a few Hadith and started going hay wire. Now that the genie is out of the bottle, any ‘scholar’ who is still clinging to the old paradigm is basically just clinging on to his power and privilege. They need to understand the gig is up and they need to be honest with fellow Muslims and try to remap Islamic academia that is fit for the 21st century. This isn’t the eight century anymore. Islam is universal and for all time. Therefore it needs to move with the times.

Finally, the question I was seeking an answer for! So Sunnah is generally custom tradition preceding hadith, but also deriving from [the written corpus of] hadith. The scholars are the ones who decide (or work out) existing Sunnah, but hadith is purely written accounts of purportedly narrated historical records from the life of the prophet, passed down from generations of companions.

It is reported that on rainy days the Prophet would get stains of mud in his forehead after prostration. Had he prayed with hands at his chest of below the navel, he would get stains on his clothes as well, because during prostration he would've placed the hands in mud as well. The narration doesn't say that, it just speaks about a stain in the forehead. That is an indication that he didn't fold his hands in Salah.

@@saleemdurrani1 The Qur'an doesn't mention any hands anywhere so it doesn't matter really. Personally I don't care about this topic and I don't think it's relevant to God either. But for the sake of the argument, there's good historical evidence that the hand folding was borrowed later on from the Jewish tradition. One would say "well they are descendants of the Prophets, so they do that correctly. Well there were plenty of Jews in Medina, and the people of Medina prayed with their hands on the sides (maybe to distinguish themselves from the Jews).

❎❎ Easy points to end useless debates people are engaging just "for feeling superior" to other Muslims One's belief about Muawiya is not as important as how firm you have to be about the honour and status of Imam Ali. Muawiya has no status to debate with Imam Ali. Ali(Ra) status is confirmed and cannot change. A lower ranking Sahabi may not remain as a Sahabi if he is disobedient. The status of high ranking Sahabah(Ra),wives of prophet(Ra) and ahli bait cannot change. They can't have grudges and love for religious fasaad. Aisha(Ra) can have her opinion regarding Imam Ali's decisions. All of which is not the business of general people. These topics can't be understood by common people. If a person wants to be guided one should respect those who were the most guided.

Three kind of information that i been told about this sadl issue is: First, imam malik usually fold his hand but later after hr see and learn the people of madina then he changed it to saddl. Secondly, the reason why there is a hadits in muwatta mentioned about folding hands is because imam malik want to shared that he know the hadits exist, yet he still do sadl as follow ing the sunnah that do by people of madina. Third, ibnu arabi said, on the early year of dakwah of rasulullah, he and his companion do shalah with folding hand like a common thing when slave face the King. But later on changed, because the teaching of sadl give elevated meaning that the king that the slave face is not ordinary, not human King. I would be happy if i make a false information about this and someone corrected me.

Personally, there's nothing 'SAREEH' in the hadith collections saying to perofmr sadl in prayer but we have heard from so and so in narrations but what is clear in the narrations is that you cross your hands be it under chest, navel or slightly above. I was praying recently and it dawned upon me, Imagine the creator of the entire universe is in front of you, you can literally see ALLAH we would stand so straight, looking straight ahead arms straight at Allah. You fold your arms in front of a police officer or anyone it's seen as confidence and an act of being cocky. This is just me exercising my own ijithad. Yes, our intent is good when it comes to folding the arms or straight but when we fold, we are loose, not 100% upright, swaying sometimes, and when you do sadl, you don't just let them hang or sway. We know deep down that if Allah revealed himself infront of us and allowed us to literally see. We wound stand straight like arrows, no other thought would cross, we would put our heart and soul and converse with Allah, with eyes fully open and focused. Arms folded or not, lets focus on improving salah than being fiqi nerds on minor things.

Nasa’i the sunni Hadith scholar got torn limb from limb in the mosque of Damascus for narrating merits or Ali(as) and when he narrated the only merit of mu’awiya,. They got mad ,. U would read Qur'an but Ramadan hajj and Salah you would no idea how to do it or how many rakhs or what to recite..as Qur'an doesn't say... surely God would not condem you to hell..so recite Qur'an as in reading is enough for salvation. Put away all what u learned and were told..and learn Arabic and u will see all translations are inaccurate for understanding Qur'an as for the scholars and mufti's u see on TV today there all properly aware or question within themselves the traditional narrative but afraid to come out and state it!
