Ikr I’d love to get this game again and play it again, I remember stepping on a bed nail in my mom’s closet then playing this. Also the soundtrack is so good, just found out today how good it is. Edit: I do still have the game cartridge, it boots up but freezes on the level select screen which sucks, could be professionally cleaned or something who knows 🤷‍♂️ Edit 2: It might’ve been a different diddy kong I played when I got a bed nail stuck in my foot but I did have this one, they’re all gems in my opinion.

I second that comment too. The 90's possibly had some of the best games around. This one was my all time favourite. I love the bramble level music as well as the forest music. Modern games just don't seem to be as enjoyable and its all now DLC. Back then all the games were complete :).

@@uzi4u182 Even though I say that DKC2 has the best overall greatness, since DKC1 was the first one I played it had the greatest impact, for an an entire week (Several hours a day) the first one was the most impactful game that I have ever played in my life to date (The ice level and aquatic music just truly sent me, and the others too), and even after that week i was still really enjoying it, and I've played/still play tons of games, so that's saying something :) Super Metroid being my favourite game to date though (Along with quite a few SM rom hacks), as I think the replay value and just the overall ambiance/game is just truly incredible, and I can not even begin to tell yo the number of times that I played that game, lolz :)

These games are the very first memories I have of spending time with my older brother. I remember literally still being in diapers when DKC2 came out, and I would be mesmerized watching my older brother play for hours on end. Yeah, I still listen to the donkey kong OST. It's just genuinely good music. Also, even the intro of the game(first 30 sec of the video) invoke a desire for adventure. This game brilliantly interacts with human psychology and brain chemistry. They really put a lot of thought into designing the game. This was the very first video game I ever played. I'm 28 years old, and when I was 5 or 6 we visited distant family in Tuscaloosa, AL. Their son had a SNES and while he was at school I was allowed to play on the system. I didn't fully understand the objective of the game but I enjoyed it so much, and I fell in love with the music. Back home in Germany I got a used SNES with this game, 2 years later a N64 and a Gameboy with Pokemon. From that moment on I became the biggest Nintendo fan to this day and these will forever be some of the dearest memories that still make me incredibly sentimental upon hearing music like Jolly Roger Bay or especially Stickerbrush Symphony. Thank you Nintendo for enriching my childhood

11:46 and 54:48: Surely this level shows that when using HDMA effectively the SNES can do a whole bunch of utterly amazing visual effects together that actually surpasses anything seen on the Genesis visually and with zero slowdown from what I can see, correct? I mean, look at this level: It has multiple parallax backgrounds scrolling both vertically and horizontally at once, one with full line scrolling used for the rippling water and another with an almost proper full 3D effect for the floors on the ship, regular bubbles floating up the screen, and full transparency on one of the layers or a real-time light beam effect moving around and switching direction and so on as the player moves. And it's all running at 60fps as far as I can tell. So why in the hell isn't there a crap-load more examples of the SNES being pushed like this, to really show it off at its full potential and display exactly why, when used properly, it's clearly able to do stuff the Genesis simply couldn't touch, regardless of its faster CPU and the like. Now, yes, because of that faster CPU the stock Genesis can do 3D much more effectively than the SNES with far less slowdown, and similarly when moving a bunch of stuff around the screen a high speed and high intensity, but it really does seem that there's not a whole lot of examples of the SNES truly showing off its own full capabilities and USPs like this quite so well as Genesis often did. Stock SNES games like F-Zero and the whole Donkey Kong Country series, to name a couple of great examples, are really brilliant displays of the SNES doing things nigh-on impossible on Genesis, certainly at the same level of impressiveness and/or at that rock-solid 60fps while doing so. I wish there was a whole lot more of that kind of stuff rather just seeing a few more colours and little else in SNES games vs Genesis games, where Genesis almost always had more resolution (due its higher vertical resolution by default in 99.9% of games), no black borders at the top and bottom of the screen, much less slowdown in general, usually loads of faux parallax using line scrolling effects in most games, a lot more happening onscreen without slowdown, and so on. It seems developers were constantly pushing the Genesis up to and even past its documented limits, but not so much the SNES--and that's a real shame imo.

I can't imagine how long it took to get to the point of being able to play through every single level without dying once. Not only that, but memorizing where every secret and bonus is located without even needing to pause the game to reference a guide, and there's a lot. Then to not mess up a single bonus stage or lose the timing on the DK Coin in Web Woods
