Just because it's nice, doesn't mean it has to be mine. Also if I have no place for it/use for it, it doesn't come into my home. And lately, I've felt more comfortable with actually telling people no, I don't want to get together I just need some time at home to recharge, and yes I saw you called, but I didn't want to talk to anyone at that moment. Usually my not answering the phone is when I'm doing something I'm enjoying, and I know it will end up being a long conversation.

The two that made the biggest impact for me are: 1) no single use items in the house if at all possible, which limits the proliferation of gadgets. There are exceptions, obviously, but especially in the kitchen it's a really good rule 2) the fact that I was just planning to sit with a book and a cup of tea this afternoon does not mean that it's "free time" that other people can impose upon. I no longer try to justify or discuss this at all, I just tell them politely that I already have a previous engagement at that time. Real emergencies being the obvious exception to this one.

In the beginning of a year I check E-Mails/Newsletters and quitt what I do not longer want to read. I also proof other things I could quitt, for example insurance, sportsclubs or sth. comparable. 4 years ago I left my 82 qm flat and live now in 35 qm, best decision ever 😉

20 points to love and cherish! There is not much to add, because they cover the whole life. But we can give similar things a different wording, of course, and then maybe they resonate more, or less. But because you ask, *one* of my long-time helpers in decision making is: first thing first. 😍 Thank you so much, Seve, you support us so much with your positive attitude, your wise words, and all clearifying practical advice. Do keep being mindful about your energy, it is a blessing for us, and hopefully for you, too, because it is a compass to sustainability. I will work for some time with these 20 highlights! 🤩 All the best to all in this thread!🍀

1. Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without. 2. Buying unnecessary things is stealing from yourself. 3. One in, two out. 4. Needs, not wants. 5. You’ll never see a Uhaul behind a hearse.

When I was very young I decided that for me it is essential to create a lifestyle that allows me to never have to work a job that I hate just because I need the money. That is the essence of my minimalist journey. I consider myself a natural minimalist; I remember vividly visiting a convent when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I was fascinated by this lifestyle that was based on very little possessions: actually, in the end who needs more than a bed, a table and a chair? Even though I am now a non-religious, agnostic person, the ethics and aesthetics of my catholic upbringing have very much shaped my journey through life and my minimalist approach. I was lucky and found a job that gave me lots of fulfilment and also allowed me to live a life of financial security. But now, as I am close to retirement, life became difficult, as I lost my job and my career due to circumstances I could not influence. So for the very last years of my working life I now work in a pleasant environment, but in a job that only pays minimum wage. Thanks to my minimalism I can make it work and stay true to my life rule.

I just started doing the 1 minute rule 4 days ago but I guess I had been doing it just before your video. My new years resolution was to be less messy/lazy, now as soon as I dirty dishes I put them in the dishwasher, before I’d just leave them in the sink and 2 days later I’d have to run the dishwasher back to back in one day. I now put my work clothes away immediately even tho I’m exhausted, and I’m also a reformed shopaholic, I have not bought anything (that wasn’t necessary) in 5 months!! That’s the longest I’ve gone in 15 years

My 10min rule is the "just 5 things" rule. Just put 5 things away for example. Takes a very short time and I almost never stop at 5, but even if I do, I feel accomplished :)

I have mixed feelings about the $10 rule. I agree with donating the item, but I think there is something to learn from the accountability of disposing of the item in other ways than donating it to a thrift store (in which case it will most likely end up in a landfill). When you have to manage your stuff responsibly, you tend to think twice before acquiring it.

Your $10 rule is my $100 rule. I went through the hassle of selling a microwave for $50 on Facebook marketplace. It took a lot of energy, patience, and effort to get the microwave sold. When I finally met a guy in a Walmart parking lot and sold it, I immediately went to a Japanese restaurant in the same shopping center and spent the $50 on sushi. In 5 minutes, all that time and effort was gone. I realized I could have just ate cereal that night and utilized the effort and energy I spent selling that microwave on something fun or interesting. Now my minimum is $100.
@lindaanderson499012 күн бұрын
Yes! I had a microwave listed on fb market for $25...the stupid responses,,,can you deliver, can you hold it until I get paid? Nope..I now donate to a local pet rescue thrift store. I don't have the patience fir the nonsense for $25
@NoUse161512 күн бұрын
I’m the same way at this point, except if it’s small enough to ship easily and I think I can get $20 or more for it I’ll put it up in eBay, Fb marketplace is such a crap shoot and rarely worth the effort
@itsjorgeroblox17799 күн бұрын
$50 on sushi?? Girl you could have bought all the ingredients and fed 10 people with that
@serenityjewel9 күн бұрын
@ Yeah, I could have went to a couple of grocery stores, searched for and bought all the stuff, drove home and prepared all the stuff, cleaned up the mess, ate, and put everything away but I didn’t want to. Everything is a trade off of time, energy, effort, and/or money. I’m ok spending money when I want to use my time, energy, and/or effort on more important things.
@angienicolehernandez1048 күн бұрын
Well, it was your conscious choice to make all your effort worth one trip to the sushi place instead of something more cost effective. I don't think the problem was the mount of money.

Minimalist here. I have several reasons why I do not own or buy stuff. 1) I am a fan of fast liquidation and emergency funds. Instead of spending money on stuff and buying expensive ones, I save up and have a stash of money just in case. 2) I am a fan of FIRE. I have my financial goals and monthly savings target. I pay myself first. and the rest is for my bills, food, necessities etc. 3) I live alone. my budget, meal plan, spending and all items at home are all good for one. I make sure the amount of things is just right. 4) I live in an earthquake, tsunami and typhoon prone area. I do not mind evacuating, and leaving everything behind. I am ready to start again. I just have my suit case of documents, food, money and devices for digital books and smartphone 5) My hobbies do not need much item and equipment. I read digital books, watch movies, play badminton, etc.. 6) I love simplicity, quiet, peace and clarity. I love spacious rooms free from clutter and my office is always clear and clean. 7) I value health more than anything else. A clean house, a good bedroom for sleeping, a enough place to exercise, a small comfortable chair for reading, and a good movie while eating popcorn. haha

5 mins in... and I've had 5 advert breaks. That's a lot. Usually in a 19 minute video, I get 2 at most. Maybe, as a minimalist promoting less consumption, perhaps you could edit the number of ads shown in your videos (edit placement of ads on monetisation tab) Hmmm.. Ad 6 just started while typing this (7.41m in)

Wow, that's way too much for sure! I guess KZbin changed something because usually they don't show back to back midroll ads.
