So I'm working on waht looks to be the same exact one. I'd love to pick your brain on a few things. It was my grandfather's and now it's my new refurbishing project, I just finished a boat and I have another boat and the moto 4 and a coin toss determined that I take a break from boat refurbishing lol

Sludge looks like it was from water they sucked in motor .shavings look like brake in shavings to me .They probably never changed the oil from original start up .probably just added oil to it when it was low .But that's what the 🧲 is for to grab all the shavings. Looked like you got it running pretty good.

I could see that the oil was super bad even on camera. I've helped to clean up some bad oil in my time, but I have never seen oil that is like mud. That's just crazy how bad that stuff was. You might have like to have that plow when it snows to plow your driveway. 😉 Love how the rims turned out. They look super dope! (That's how the kids say that these days, right? LOL)

Great videos man. Thank you. I really love these kind of old machines, If you were to run a quart of dextron transmission fluid mixed in with the oil for a while it would help clean out all that sludge, and then give it another oil change with some good 10-40 . Transmission fluid has about 3 times the detergent of engine oil and and it does a excellent job of cleaning aluminum. Obviously that is one reason why it is use in aluminum transmissions

Hi SSH Family. Nice project so far. You mentioned "Old Man Strength". Well, OMS doesn't kick in until you get into your 50's and then in order to conjure up said strength you need to have the correct expletives to go along with it. See "A Christmas Story" for an example. Here's one of my favorites. "Oh, for cripes sake, open up the damper will ya? Who the hell turned it all the way down? AGAIN! Oh, blast it! Poop flirt, rattle crap, camel flirt! You blunder frattle beak struckle brat! Of a womp sack butt bottom fodder..." Cheers and God Bless. ~Mike and Ester~

Using gas as a solvent is a terrible idea for several reasons, not the least of which is safety. I see a much better use for that gas. If I had pulled that much metal out of the motor, I probably would have pushed the entire bike to a safe outdoor area, doused it with the old gasoline, set up my video gear, and produce a great "I set my Moto 4 on fire!" video. LOL.

I just got home about an hour ago with a 1985 Moto 4 ATV that I bought for a pretty low price. It cranks and runs fairly well but I am going to do a full inspection and put it in good mechanical condition. I'm enjoying watching your videos on your 1986 model as they will help me with my overhaul. I've already got a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf. Those older bikes were built like tanks and just keep on going!

Can you weld on a head
@SunnySlopeHomestead
@SunnySlopeHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
You can aluminum weld heads to repair cracks then machine the surface. If you are asking about cooling fins yes , a aluminum welding spool gun will work well for this. The key is cleaning anything off the surface like oils and such 👍👍👍

So the metal shavings mean the engine is off? They are coming from the pistons? You are meticulous, that's how you are gonna make this work.
