You nailed it Rick ! Not a shaper but the explanations make so much sense and is backed by your video, i don't remember seeing you turning on such tight arc even with the SP 25 or the placid.

Thanks for that AP, it is sometimes hard to qualify subtleties, but one place that the Ghost displays an noticeable advantage is when I cut back on a backside wave. The Ghost carries speed through the cutback and the turn back to the shoulder, so it is like one linked turn without the need to "get back up to speed". I can also do that cutback tight enough to climb the white water and bounce off it to head back to the shoulder. This is easy on a bigger wave because you have more room, but now I can do it on a small wave, which greatly enhanced wave enjoyment for me!! Interesting difference between these 3 boards: I have always surfed better backside on longer boards, like the 9'5 SP25 and 9'4 Creek, but shorter SUPs always turn to quickly going backside and I could never recover with enough speed to make the wave. I love my 8'8 SP25 and 8'10 Placid, but almost never surf them backside . The Ghost is the first board that I surf well backside in a shorter version.

I love the concept! IMHO, being able to turn from different spots on the board is so beneficial.

Glad you appreciate the design purpose Brian... A guy my size on the kick pad will sink the tail and stall out after a turn, so this is a neat feature!

I'm rarely all the way back on the tail turning, so this is interesting! I've had one board that went rail-to-rail great, but that was because it had so much vee. There has to be a way to turn from different spots on the board without sacrificing or losing speed. Keep on innovating!!! 🤙
@rickweeks
@rickweeks 4 ай бұрын
@@brianmckenzie1318 no loss of speed at all! In the video, I do a lot of backside cutbacks, then do a 180* and maintain speed onto the shoulder.

Hi Aussiert... thanks for your comment! All Ghosts at the moment have to be ordered at your nearest Sunova Retailer or online at the Sunova Website. Where are you located, I will answer with the nearest shop to contact. Shops should begetting some stock soon, but being a new model, the production has to catch up with demand.

Where I live we have very small waves (English channel). I have an inflatable surf sup (itiwit 10' 31") plenty of times I'd paddle hard for a small wave and it doesn't take me anywhere (otherwise board is excellent and surfable on any small to medium size formed wave) What would be the best board for catching the smallest of waves with least effort?

Rick….you’re explanation of what you wanted he Ghost to be really spoke to me, especially you wanting a board that will turn well from further forward….have to admit I have trouble getting as far back as I need to to turn and maintain control…. I’m 70, about 190, decent shape….not gonna likely surf over head high…you recommend the 9’1”?…..can I order from you ?..how much, I live in Georgia
@rickweeks

Absolutely, on all accounts Rusty. Heck, maybe take a jaunt south and try the 9'1 on for size. I am in the Cocoa area, only a hop skip and a jump from the border. I am an Official Sales Agent for Sunova, so I would be happy to place your order for you! supthecreek@gmail.com I will give you my number so we can have a discussion about boards and what will best suit you!

Hi Rick, congrats for this new vid. What are the differences between this board and the Genration Kanga? You have ride both and it seems that both are super stable, fast and turn very easy… I would like your opinion before to make a decision. Thanks
@rickweeks
@rickweeks 4 ай бұрын
Thanks Cuch, I appreciate that! They are quite different boards in many respects Both boards are very easy to surf, however I find smaller Ghost sizes easier than smaller kanga sizes. Ghost more stable at every size Ghost is faster, snappier Kanga is designed to handle larger, steeper waves than the Ghost Kanga paddles straighter In smaller sizes, I greatly prefer the Ghost I am curious how the 9'6's will compare head to head, as I haven't done that yet as they are a bit too much for me to carry both of them to the sand at the same time and the walks are too long for multiple trips. Bottom line.... I designed the Ghost specifically to eliminate the "sticky bits" and improve performance using all I learned on my favorite boards.

hi rick, I like to tell you about my problem, italian problem. In ours sea, mediteranneo, is very difficult to try wave like the ocean, and for the ours conditions, whit wave" weak", is most important the wegth of the table, because table ok 10 kilos or more, are very difficult to start surfing. sunova are beautiful, and amazing to see in your ands, but I think that in italia are too much heavy. what you think about?
@rickweeks
@rickweeks 4 ай бұрын
Hi Mario, I have always appreciated your support my friend! I am happy to answer this! I think the translation lost some meaning Did you mean?: Because we have a lot of choppy waves the width of the board is the most important Wide boards are over 10 kg, so surfing is hard to learn Do you think Sunova's are too heavy (Sunova's are very light boards) If you prefer, ask again in Italian and I'll use Google Translate
@torabalea
@torabalea 4 ай бұрын
🙂@@rickweeks

Any tips for a 60 year young gal trying to SUP surf for the first time this summer?
@rickweeks
@rickweeks Ай бұрын
Hi Sandy First off, you are going to be so stoked once you get past the learning curve.... SUP surfing opens up an amazing world that isn't obvious to an observer. Information or tips would vary dramatically depending if you are coming from a surf background or starting from scratch. If you are an experienced paddler or if you have never paddled a standup before. I have consulted with newbie SUP surfers and experts for the past 10 years. No fees, I just like helping people find their space in the SUP world. If you would like specific advice, tailored to your experience (or lack of) please email me because the transfer of information and links is possible through email. supthecreek@gmail.com I guess I really should make a video geared towards entry leven SUP surfing and all the variables that help the process. SUP surfing changed my life at 62, when I transitioned from a lifetime of regular surfing to SUP. Absolutely amazing!
