This activity uses Sunprint paper to demonstrate photolithography, a process that is used to pattern silicon wafers and enable the creation of microchips. These microchips are used in many devices in our daily lives, like cellphones and computers.
Sunprint® paper is coated with light-sensitive material that reacts when exposed to light. When you place objects on the paper, they block the light and turn white while the paper around them remains blue. Water stops the process and fixes your images on the paper, much like photography or photolithography that is used to make tiny devices!
