All governments need to get a grip instead of the woe is me mantra. Aboriginal people with sound knowledge of the bush could be employed to manage our national parks and strategically burn off the undergrowth as they have done for 10’s of thousands of years. Then bush fires would be managed more effectively, wildlife saved etc., etc., etc.,

No part of the park has been DESTROYED BY FIRE. The forests need fire for regeneration.

Certainly, do grow back. That's a couple of news services I've heard using the word destroyed. Completely wrong definition and deliberately said. Misinformation? The only parts really damaged have been caused by the fire brigade where they are dropping pink fire retardant instead of waterr. A big win for chemical companies.
@johnmead843718 күн бұрын
Some forest types are semi-tolerant of fire & regenerate. This usually changes the ecosystem significantly to favour some species. And if those species require more diversity & are rare, their particular niche being destroyed by fire doesn't help them.
@christinehede757817 күн бұрын
@ this is true but those species can be helped to regenerate if needed

I grew up in Victoria and summer temps around 38C - 40C (104F) or thereabouts were common place, add high northerly winds and bush fires follow, often lit by arsonists. Dark smoke filled skies blocked the sun, turning it into a red blob, it was awful. Somethings don’t ( and won’t) change. Ever!

The Indian species Getonia Floribunda and Terminalia Elliptica store water in. If these are planted in those areas fire cannot move as fast as it moves now and controlling the fire would be easier.

If you've got thousands of Gumtrees releasing flammable vapers These plants won't work and aren't natural to the area so probably wouldn't grow

When they say, " Over a quarter of the National Park has been Destroyed" Does that mean it is totally destroyed? Like completely unusable forever? Or has the vegetation just burned off the top of it in the natural way it would involving fire which I believe is a normal process for the land which helps create new forest trees? Which is not good for humans or other animals at the time?
@Bluetongue.18 күн бұрын
Theres a big difference between a control "slow and low" burn and a uncontrolled wild fire. Once the fire gets into the canopy of these trees it can kill them rather than stimulate a regrowth response.
