Some people will never understand the point of what you're doing, wondering why the hell sleeping out in a field would be fun, and you can't make such people "get it". When I can't head to the deep woods for a weekend sometimes I go across the creek behind our house to my little campsite. It's less than a quarter mile, but especially at night when the traffic noise is gone I can pretend I'm far away, just me and the fire. I get it!

I'll be able to go to the back of the back yard (slightly less than an acre) once I get the insurance company to pay off from the last hurricane and get it cleaned up. Those who haven't done what we love won't understand until they give it roll !

Couple of top tips I picked up regarding rubbish - if you're eating a dehydrated meal DON'T cut the packet down once it's rehydrated to make it easier to eat, instead once you're done you can reseal it as a rubbish bag and also keep in any food smells that might attract wildlife. Also the brew kit that comes with British military 24hr ration packs comes in a really robust plastic bag, these are great for carrying food in and carrying rubbish back out IME.

Once you see the views and the sunsets you can fully appreciate why people do this. Personally I find myself drawn to sights and scenes like these and I slip in to a daydream staring in to the screen and get lost in my thoughts for a moment. I just wish I had the confidence to just go out and do it , I have all the kit ready but minimal experience. Confidence and the will to do things are what I've been lacking of late. Thank you for sharing this video it looked like a very relaxing stay.

What I love about bushcraft is that it’s essentially knowledge work (in the modern parlance) and one of the few skills that you get better at as you get older and gain more knowledge. Also in the traditions of our ancestors, we learn by others - i.e don’t stick your 🤬 groundsheet next to a source of flame! Great vid as always 👏 P.s. used to decant pot noodles into a plastic bag for the pot mess!

Can someone clarify what the legal status is re UK wild camping? I've read that it's illegal to camp/bivouac outside of a designated campsite...so, as much as I love all these bushcraft skills channels, I sometimes think 'living in a small country, lacking vast wildernesses, where the heck can i go to experience wild camping?'. Or does one just have to practise 'stealth' camping?

That stove looks very similar to one I got in Sports Direct about 10 years ago. Fairly sure it's titanium. It's holding up well with occasional use, although i don't put anything heavy on it. Think it was branded "Karrimor" but I looked into it when I first got it and it's made by another company, who also sell them with other branding, so yours could be another make Nick. If your viewers are looking for well priced, sometimes UK made camping gear, I can thoroughly recommend Alpkit. Been buying their equipment for a number of years and it's very good for the price. This fix turned out to be so durable I never got to make an other solution. It held many years of quite gnarly conditions (Scandinavian) before I had to change the tarp from just wear and tear. The patches never failed me during those years though.. sometimes the mist simple solutions att the best. I wouldn’t want to sew in that light material. Maybe some patch with some silicone based glue would do the trick, but hey duct tape is easier!:)

You'd be surprised what you can get away with, provided you keep a low profile. I've been doing this since the 90s, tbh I've never had trouble even when caught once or twice. I'll camp anyway, national trust etc etc is pretty good. It takes them days to actually do anything, by then you're long gone. If I get caught, I still offer a cup of tea to whomever catches me. hey Nick, i'm also planning sleeping out,etc BUT i have some fears. for example, how do you avoid bugs and whatnots walking on your face (or into your nose, ears) while sleeping? i bough a bug net that i can wear on my head but i think it might be dangerous (wraps around your neck while sleeping). also, who do you generally do against bugs? of course, i have mosquito and tick repellant but what about other "curious and relentless" bugs that want to land on me/bite me, etc? final question: is the tarp size relevant? you use a 3x3m but i have a 2x3m which makes it hard to achieve some configurations.
@redactedcanceledcensored6890
@redactedcanceledcensored6890 Жыл бұрын
If you want no bugs at all, a tent (they usually have an integrated ground sheet sewn in with no gaps) or a hammock with an integrated bug net is a good choice. You can even put your backpack and footwear in your tent to protect them from insects.
@SigmaGhost1111

In warmer weather a bivvy bag with a snugpak jungle sleeping bag is a good option, the jungle bag comes with a built-in mosquito net which can be rolled away if not needed. Some plants can act as a natural insect repellent, either burned or rubbed on the skin. Also if you use a 2x3 tarp there are some configs where 3 sides are pegged to the floor and the open side can be covered with a mosquito net hung over the opening. There are options. I use a 2x3 tarp and not a 3x3 because its lighter weight and packs away slightly smaller, i use a bivvy bag aswell so a smaller tarp is fine for me. All the best to you.

@@SigmaGhost1111 thanks for the comment! how tall are you? i'm 184cm and could barely fit under a 2x3 tarp in a half A-frame config (not sure about the proper name for it. i've tried out multiple configurations when i was practicing tarp-setups. also, mine is a cheap one, only 3 gromits on each side. might need to upgrade to a better one. the only config i was satisfied with using my 2x3 tarp is the flying A frame, or proper a-frame on the ground (2 walking sticks). weight is not really a concern for me as i'm just a hobbyist, not a professional (yet)
